Job Description:PRIMARY PURPOSE:This position is required to provide campus leadership for college readiness in an instructional and assessment capacity. Responsibilities include: developing and implementing best teaching practices for advanced academic teachers, as well as provide applicable training, training materials, district level support for special population students, irregularity investigations, and data desegregation.QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, requiredValid Texas Teaching Certificate or permit with required endorsements for subject/level assigned, requiredMaster’s Degree, requiredGifted and Talented Supplemental Certificate, preferred (must be obtained upon employment)Special Knowledge/Skills:Communicate effectively (verbal and written);organize, coordinate and effectively implement assigned tasks;Interpret assessment policy, procedures and data;Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Experience:Three (3) years of experience as an Advanced Academics (GT/AP/IB) classroom teacher, preferredExperience as an IB or AP Coordinator or lead teacher, preferredExperience in curriculum development, preferredWorking Days: 221Daily Rate pay range:Minimum: $ 349.50Maximum: $ 487.62Note: Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Keep informed about current legislation, educational developments, literature and research regarding staff development and in-service education in Gifted Education, College Board, ACT, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate, Dual Enrollment by participating in state and national professional organizations; associations, attend appropriate conferences and staff development sessions; disseminate professional information and materials to schools.
  • Coordinate College Readiness testing program (PSAT8 – 11, SAT, ACT, Pre-AP, AP, IB) and other assessments throughout the year.
  • Develop, administer, and supervise procedures for ensuring security and confidentiality of College Readiness testing program and Gifted/Talented screening and identification assessments.
  • Provide leadership and supervise the implementation and use of campus College Readiness Testing Platforms and Dashboards ensuring test results are disseminated to students, parents and teachers.
  • Consult and coordinate with campus test coordinators, special population coordinators and directs and administrators to provide appropriate testing accommodations and material for Limited English Proficient (LEP) students and students with disabilities receiving special services.
  • Coordinate and conduct Advanced Academic campus test coordinator sessions for ACT, SAT, PSAT, AP, including the TAGT Online Staff Development Program.
  • Prepare reports for teachers, and other professionals who use test results in performing their duties.
  • Serve as a resource person in the administration of district test initiatives that support instructional improvement and student success.
  • Serve as a resource person in developing, implementing, interpreting and communicating the results of the College Assessment program to school staff, the Board of Trustees and other interested parties.
  • Ensure the school district follows gifted/talented accountability standards and monitor the effectiveness of assessment and services for gifted /talented students in middle school and high school.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of organization systems for student records College Readiness assessments according to FERPA, District policy, and procedures.
  • Coordinate the involvement of family and community members in services designed for advanced academics students throughout the school year.
  • Coordinate AP and Pre-AP teacher collaboration and calibration meetings and coordinator groups, for secondary.
  • Coordinate and participate in the Secondary Advanced Academic Advisory Council.
  • Ensure all personnel involved in the planning, creation, delivery, and administration of services to advance academic students at the secondary level possess the knowledge required to develop and provide differentiated programs and services.
  • Collaborate as requested with AP/IB campus coordinators and lead teachers, department chairpersons and teachers to provide technical assistance on curriculum matters concerning Advanced Academics, summer reading, the utilization of literary works and other material for middle and high school advanced academics.
  • Support Coordinate and Collaborate with AP program chairs and AP Lead Teachers at each high school by preparing detailed data reports to facilitate the effectiveness of the AP program including the disaggregation of data, submission of syllabus, units, assessments, action plans, prep sessions and curriculum documents.
  • Visit classrooms to observe, support and coach teachers for the improvement of teaching and learning practices in middle school and high school advanced academic classes.
  • Keep the immediate supervisor informed regarding the status on all projects or initiatives undertaken and of directives or requests received internally or externally.
  • Ensure that AP and Pre-AP teachers receive ongoing training to enhance their teaching skills.
  • Promote the continuous enhancement of a climate conducive to open communication and productive work with schools and the department of Instructional Services.
  • Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).
