Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice. The Registered Nurse also directs and guides patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of care in the Birthplace. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition and/or response to treatment. Provides for a safe environment for patients and visitors. Utilizes the chain of command when necessary to ensure patient well-being and appropriateness of care to newborns and mothers during the antepartum and postpartum periods.
- Certs: BLS & ACLS (MUST BE THROUGH AHA), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), & AWHONN-Advanced
- - Licensure: Current CA RN License
- - Doc System: CERNER preferred but not required
- -Add'l Equipment: Pagers linked to call light system & internal spectralink phones
- - Unit Orientation: 2 shifts on the unit. Will also meet with the educator, as they have 3 nurses who do 'file reviews' to ensure accurate documentation
- - Nurse Aides: No nurse aides, but do have OB techs that help w/ C-sections & assist as needed with baby cares.
- - Charge Nurse: Yes, have around the clock--does NOT take patients
- - Shifts/Hours: 12 hours; 7a - 7p/7p - 7a
- - Breaks: 1/2 hour break (clock-out); 3 - 15 min breaks per shift (CA Law)
- - Weekends: Usually every other weekend (same as perm staff)
- - Scrub Color: Provided by hospital
- - Tele: Post-surgery only for the hour post-surgery C-section
- - Vents: N/A
- - IV Team: No
- - RT 24/7: Yes
- - Pharmacy 24/7: Yes
