- Developing waste characterization plans for various waste streams generated by decommissioning, demolition, and remediation activities.
- Assisting in collection of characterization samples for various waste streams.
- Developing waste profile data to support shipment and disposal of waste streams.
- Performing vendor assessments of various hazardous and/or radioactive Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities utilized by Aleut projects.
- Providing guidance and instructions to field teams regarding sorting, segregation, size reduction, packaging, and securement of wastes generated from decommissioning, demolition, and remediation activities.
- Certifying contents of waste containers by observing waste packaging activities, documenting contents, verifying characterization information, and ensuring integrity of closed containers.
- Identifies prohibited items in waste streams that require segregation and special handling.
- When deployed as a Waste Package Certifier to a project site under the DOE Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) certification program, the Candidate will support and work under the direction of the site Waste Certification Officer (WCO).
- Implements site procedures and plans for all facets of waste disposition.
- Assists in packaging and shipment of waste and environmental samples.
- Supports Radioactive and Hazardous Waste Shippers in development of manifests, profiles, and shipping documentation.
- Supports loading and securement of waste packages onto conveyances.
- Data entry and other job relates duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality work
- High school diploma or GED
- Associate degree preferred
- 1 to 3 years of related work experience preferred (e.g., construction, environmental, radiological, analytical, geology).
- Ability to travel on short and long-term assignments, in excess of 50% of the time. Travel is scheduled and coordinated in advance.
- Familiarity with safety and environmental rules/regulations is preferred.
- Good written and oral communications skills with the ability with clients and team members.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently in remote locations without direct supervision.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER and current annual 8-hour refresher. Aleut will offer training to employee pre-employment, if required.
- Completion of radioactive and/or hazardous waste shipping courses preferred.
- Ability to complete and demonstrate competency in Aleut provided safety training programs (e.g., radiation safety, asbestos, PCB, RCRA/hazardous wastes, DOT/IATA, FA/CPR).
- Ability to read and understand complex instructions, procedures, and requirements.
- Willingness to work in field conditions in adverse weather conditions.
- Basic computer proficiency and literacy, including use of the MS Office suite of applications, to generate reports, spreadsheets, and data.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Ability to travel by air or automobile for long durations.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical including pulmonary function test for respirator use.
- Ability to pass pre-employment and routine drug and alcohol screening required for accessing federal facilities.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check which includes up to a 10-year employment verification, DMV records search, criminal records search, and verification of education and certifications.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q or L security clearance.
- Level I – 0 to 3 years of experience and basic knowledge in the areas of expertise.
- Level II – 3 to 10 years of experience and general knowledge in the areas of expertise.
- Level III – 10+ years of experience and advanced knowledge in the areas of expertise.
