- Dismantle/Troubleshoot instrumentation and replace defective electronic or mechanical parts.
- Install and maintain various types of instruments, including Safety Critical devices, motored and pneumatically operated valves and analyzers.
- Install and monitor performance of installed inst. equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacements.
- Lay out, assemble, install, test, repair, and adjust instruments, apparatus, junction boxes, wiring, and new services to include panels, power supplies, and conduit.
- Mount instruments, analyzers & valves into position & complete circuits & tubing according to diagram specs.
- Repair, install, replace, and test inst. loops, equip., and appliances using appropriate tools/ testing instruments.
- Troubleshoot and repair electric controls, inst. loops, control centers, DCS and programmable logic controls.
- Perform preventive maintenance on control systems, instrument loops and distribution panels.
- Install, repair, and inspect various types of conduit, tubing and piping installations.
- Understand and utilize Management of Change and Control of Defeat procedures.
- Perform Mechanical Integrity procedures and produce and maintain maintenance records.
- Research documentation for proper values to check calibration, adjusts as necessary, documents all values & changes.
- Interpret blueprints, Loop drawings, hook-up sheets, electrical schematics
- Able to work in shops and field settings.
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively develop, communicate, and implement plans.
- Effective in oral and written communications, including effective meeting skills.
- Ability to work with others in a team environment, including working toward team goals.
- Able to identify and mitigate job and/or safety hazards.

- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified and/or two-year associate degree.
- Demonstrated work experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of an Instrument Technician for installation and maintenance of: Temperature, Pressure, Flow, Vibration and Speed instruments and controllers.
- Ability to isolate instrumentation equipment, defects in wiring, switches, etc. through Lock Out, Tag Out.
- Ability to install and maintain instruments, analyzers, control valves, conduit, wiring, tubing and piping.
- Knowledge of instrumentation systems including planning additions or modifications on loops and circuits.
- Proficiency in safe use of hand and power tools applicable to trade.
- Ability to safely operate a variety of electronic, pneumatic and electrical test instruments.
- Ability to install analyzers and sampling systems.
- Ability to read instrument & electrical blueprints through the full range of industrial maintenance and construction work.
- Proficiency in use of appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot, repair, replace and test instrument loops, electrical circuits and equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls, instrument loops, motor and pneumatic operated valves and programmable logic controllers.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of ladder logic and programming theory used in DCS control systems.
- Proficiency with computer programs in field calibration, communication, document and record keeping functions.
