Clearance Required: Active Secret (or higher)Waypoint’s client is seeking a Radar Mechanical Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Ground Sensors Directorate Long Range Discrimination Radar Product Office. This role requires strong technical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to interface directly with MDA Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and prime contractors to ensure radar hardware meets design, manufacturing, and test requirements.Responsibilities
- Provide technical assessments and programmatic support for the Hardware Integrated Product Team (HW IPT).
- Review system and subsystem designs, planning documents, and test documentation; provide written and verbal feedback to the Government.
- Collaborate with prime contractors to resolve design and performance discrepancies.
- Review contractor documents and processes to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
- Perform bidirectional requirements flow from Element Specification (ES), Prime Item Development Specification (PIDS), and Hardware Requirement Specification (HRS).
- Conduct verification and validation of requirements.
- Track hardware manufacturing metrics and hardware failures to identify trends.
- Plan and conduct audits of both commercial and military systems.
- Review contract deliverable submissions and provide recommendations for acceptance or rejection.
- Travel (up to 20%) to prime contractor facilities and fielded site locations to support hardware manufacturing, site integration, and testing.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred).
- 7+ years of experience supporting missile defense-related or other complex DoD programs/projects.
- Active DoD Secret clearance (or higher).
- Knowledge of military mechanical systems design and application, including power and cooling hardware.
- Strong ability to provide independent technical assessments and recommendations.
- Experience with ruggedized military systems, particularly mechanical, electrical packaging, and cooling of systems/assemblies/subassemblies for harsh environments.
- Background in risk assessment, validation/verification requirements, and system troubleshooting during integration and testing.
- Experience with test procedures, executing functional subsystem testing, witnessing test activities, and preparing test reports.
- Knowledge of shock, vibration, and EMI testing.
- Experience with radar or other military systems.
- Proficiency with Creo/Pro E for reviewing engineering designs.
- Familiarity with MDA processes, including:
- MDA systems engineering procedures
- MDA organizational structure
- Missile Defense System (MDS) architecture and concepts
- Experience preparing documentation for Program Reviews and Engineering Review Boards (ERBs).
- Ability to self-manage, work across organizational boundaries, and decompose complex problems into actionable tasks.
- Strong presentation skills with ability to brief leaders at multiple levels.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
