Position Summary The UNM Midwifery Division is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to work as a per diem employee within our well-established midwifery practice. We are seeking an experienced Certified Nurse-Midwife to join our dedicated team of faculty midwives who work in an integrated model of care with our physician colleagues providing peripartum care for patients. Candidates would provide full-scope midwifery clinical care in a variety of settings on an as needed basis. Candidates would practice within the health care system and perform consultation, collaborative management, or referral, as indicated by the health status of the client. We practice in accordance with the Standards for the Practice of Midwifery, as defined by the American College of Nurse-Midwives.The position is mainly focused on inpatient care on Labor and Delivery (24/7 service). There may be the opportunity to add outpatient clinical care, but our focus for this position is inpatient. We are dedicated to education, and the position involves working with OBGYN and Family and Community Medicine residents, Student Nurse-Midwives, and other students to help train them in normal labor and birth.The ideal candidate would have clinical experience, function well on a team, be flexible and readily available to fill-in, speak some Spanish, and possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. This position is on-call and is not benefits eligible. Work hours and schedule will be variable and are usually limited to no more than 120 hours per quarter.Conditions of Employment
  • CPR Certified.
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
  • Must maintain certification status.
Minimum QualificationsMaster's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities, which may include practicum. Certification/Licensure A New Mexico Department of Health CNM License (or eligible). A valid license that meets the New Mexico Board of Nursing's requirement to practice as a registered nurse in New Mexico (or eligible). Participation in the Certificate Maintenance Program with the American Midwifery Certification Board (or eligible).Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year of L&D experience
  • Clinical midwifery experience both inpatient and outpatient
  • Available to cover labor and delivery days and nights during the week and weekend and postpartum rounds. Ambulatory care may be an option.
  • Scheduling flexibility and availability on short notice--must be available for at least two 12 hours shifts/month
  • Spanish speaking (highly desired)
