This position provides direction, coaching, and structure to ensure that team members are performing at their best. This role ensures that food production and services are carried out to best meet the needs of the department.Job Relationships:A. Reports to: Director of Bethesda StoneRidgeB. Interrelationships: Bethesda Directors and Assistant Directors, DieticianC. Supervisory responsibilities: Bethesda culinary teamD. External Contacts: Families, vendors, suppliers, and service providersHours of Work: Full-time salaried position Monday through Friday, with flexibility to support on weekends and evenings as needed.Dress Code: Casual professional with identification name badge.Essential Requirements of Work:A. Preferred Licensure and Education: High school diploma or GED.B. Preferred Experience: Previous culinary experience in healthcare.C. Personal:1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.2. Ability to adapt to differing customer needs.3. Ability to promote teamwork among staff.4. Strong customer service orientation.5. An understanding and desire to promote quality principles.6. Desire to continue to learn.7. Passion for serving older adults.8. Detail oriented.D. Job Knowledge (Specific)1. Basic first aid, safety procedures and chemical properties of cleaning products.2. Coaching strategies.3. Proficiency with computers and any software program the facility is currently using.4. Knowledge of industry practices and services.E. Physical Demands of the Job:1. Sits, stoops, bends and walks intermittently.2. Lifts to 50 pounds occasionally.3. Possible exposure to burns, cuts, falls and scalds.4. Exposure to extreme temperatures.Core Job Responsibilities:A. Responsibility: Direct, prepare, and supervise cooking and food preparation.1. Ensure ingredients and final products are fresh.2. Follow recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients.3. Bake, grill, steam and boil meats, vegetables fish, poultry and other foods.4. Present, garnish, and arrange final dishes.5. Operate kitchen equipment such as broilers, ovens, grills and fryers.B. Responsibility: Implement best practices, innovative culinary arts, and create a culture of excelling customer service.1. Work with other departments on ways to involve residents in preparation of meals and snacks.2. Work with other departments on incorporating “themed meals”.3. Seek out education and knowledge of culinary trends, best practices, and customer service strategies. Implement programs and processes accordingly.4. Meet with residents to discuss preferences, concerns, and different options they would like offered.C. Responsibility: Responsible for culinary management and the performance of culinary team members.1. Provide coaching to team members on presentation of meals, customer service, and food safety and sanitation practices.2. Support new team members in feeling welcome and ensuring they are receiving appropriate training.3. Help resolve conflict and find solutions.4. Provides direction and feedback to team members as needed.5. Conduct corrective actions, performance evaluations, and performance improvement conversations.6. Conduct interviews and hire team members who align with Bethesda’s values.D. Responsibility: Supports timely, accurate food purchasing, production and service.1. Oversee the ordering of food for food production weekly.2. Order food and supplies for production.3. Maintain inventory.4. Meet with Director of StoneRidge to review budget monthly. Implement and carry out cost containment and reduction strategies.5. Write, develop, and produce menus weekly.6. Print and distribute both weekly and monthly menus.7. Plan and supervise special meals such as holidays, theme days, picnic, and resident family requests.E. Responsibility: Monitor sanitation and safety standards in the department.1. Assure that team members follow standards at all times.2. Assure training in proper sanitation procedures is provided on a regular basis.3. Investigates all sanitation problems and make necessary adjustments.4. Follow up on any injury reports to identify any safety improvements to be made.Professional and Personal Growth:A.
