Location: Kent Campus HospitalStatus: Full Time 72 HoursShift: DaysSALARY RANGE: 136,637.28 - 211,779.36YEARLYGeneral Summary:Provides direction and mentorship for the Diagnostic Imaging Physician Assistants (PA). Works closely with new hires during orientation to document the required cases, allowing the PA to perform procedures independently. Provides quality care and improves patient outcomes by strengthening continuity of care for patients, families, and staff. The Physician Assistant (PA) works independently and with autonomous collaboration with physicians /radiologists to provide physical examinations, diagnosis, and treatment planning by performing invasive procedures in all DI modalities. The PA functions as an essential member of the Diagnostic Imaging team and is involved in the pre-, intra-, and post-operative care of surgical patients, and may refer patients to a radiologist for consultation. The PA remains responsible for the patient throughout the Diagnostic Imaging (DI) treatment/procedure, provides physical examination, diagnosis, and determines when the patient has recovered and releases the patient post-procedure.Responsibilities:1. Works closely with the Radiologist group and Diagnostic Imaging management to create an environment to balance assignments for all PAs and Radiologists. May provide leadership to work groups to help resolve conflicts related to patient schedules, staffing, and other committees to enhance workflow.
2. Mentor the department's PA team members and provide back-up support to leadership when leadership is not readily available within the department. Participate in the evaluation of the performance of the department’s PAs. Provides guidance and mentorship to PAs across the service line and interprets findings to guide the plan of care.
3. Participates in employee selection and evaluation, scheduling and staffing, and in the development and adherence to clinical and budgetary standards.
4. Participates in the performance improvement processes to meet the quality of care, service standards, and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
5. Reviews patients' charts to determine the presence of illness by utilizing physical findings, laboratory results, and medical history, ascertains the nature and extent of illness, and prescribes treatments as indicated. Provide quality care across the continuum in collaboration with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, nursing staff, and other members of the care team, and be expected to manage patient care autonomously within the scope of their professional practice. Helps develop a plan of care for patients in coordination with the multidisciplinary team and completes appropriate reports to physicians and family.
6. May provide inpatient care by rounding on interventional patients and providing pre-, peri and post-op services, including care for the complex surgical population, performing surgical procedures across multiple modalities in Interventional Radiology, Computed Tomography, Fluoroscopy, and Ultrasound. Ordering and collecting test samples and collaborating with physicians and other health professionals to update the patient's plan of care as necessary.
7. Within the scope of their education, training, and credentialing, provide full-scope care for patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Independently performs CT and ultrasound-guided biopsies and drainages, as well as fluoroscopy-guided vascular access procedures. Utilizes live fluoroscopy to perform spinal procedures and place implantable and tunneled devices while adhering to infection prevention protocols. Taking appropriate action when medical complications arise. Orders and reviews appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Reviews all lab data and documents. May issue prescriptions to patients based on Federal & State Regulations.
8. Obtains and verifies informed consent; ensures all results are logged in the patient's chart. Participates in full-stop and time-out procedures. Completes patient discharge planning and education from the DI treatment area.
9. Maintains accurate and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with organizational standards in the electronic health record (EHR). Communicates examination results and diagnostic information to referring physicians, patients, and families.
10. Appropriately oversees the administration of local anesthesia to patients during procedures based on hospital credentialing and relevant training. For each procedure, perform a thorough pre-procedure assessment and evaluation of the patient and the accompanying chart. May dispense pharmaceuticals according to age, chronic medical conditions, allergies, drug interactions, and duration of therapy based on Federal and State Regulations.

  • Education: Master Degree
; Physician Assistant
; Or a graduate of a Physician Assistant program approved by the American Medical Association.
  • Credential(s): Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
Physician Assistant Licensure, Physician Assistant - Controlled Substances Registration, Limited Scope Fluoroscopy License
; If ARRT (R) is acquired and actively maintained, Limited Scope Fluoroscopy License is not required.
  • Experience: Required: Two years of interventional radiology experience.
