- Assists, plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Developing and executing health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines.
- Preparing and enforcing policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
- Evaluating practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law.
- Conduct Safety Orientation, training, and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention; ensure employees have appropriate PPE.
- Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations.
- Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
- Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker s compensation claims.
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
- Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics.
- Inspection of Contractor or (Sub) Contract operations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain healthy relationships with our internal and external clients, including representatives of the VA Hospitals.
- Conduct quality safety inspections.
- Take on the role of Site Safety while on the project.
- Conduct weekly safety Meetings (Toolbox Talks).
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent; Bachelor s degree in Safety Management, Occupation Health, Environmental Health & Safety or related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a Safety Manager, Health & Safety Manager, or similar role.
- 3-5 years relevant construction safety experience or in the related area as an individual contributor.
- Knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards regarding construction.
- Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines.
- Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies.
- Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
- Valid qualification in occupational health and safety; Certified OSHA Safety Instructor or CHST Certification preferred.
- OSHA 30-hour certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office; Familiar with Pro-core or other types of construction software programs, desirable.
- Prior military experience preferred.
- Travel is required.
