
Nurse Clinical Coordinator - Pediatrics Hematology

- Provide nursing care for approximately 700 patients of the IHTC; provide continuity of care throughout their life span.
- Conduct risk assessments for IHTC patients for Hepatitis and HIV. Order and interpret ID labs per IHTC infection disease protocol. Counsel patients and families on symptoms, transmission, and resources. Make recommendations for follow up.
- Coordinate patient care for clinic, in-patient and out-patient surgeries, and general care including communication with involved disciplines, obtaining medical history of patients, pre-scheduling testing, ordering labs per protocol, follow-up with patients and care providers, coordinating continuing appointments, consultation, and instruction to patients.
- Attend national hemophilia training program for new or advanced IHTC nurses (i.e. Partners Program) as appropriate or needed.
- Attend Bleeding Disorders of the Heartland events including an overnight annual meeting, fundraisers, and overnight family education meeting.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other health care professionals in the development and review of standards of care and protocols for persons with bleeding disorders to assure safe and effective delivery of care. Monitor practices to ensure they comply with these standards and practices.
- Perform public relations role for the UI Health Care IHTC including attending events outside of normal work schedule.
- Provide advanced health education related to bleeding and clotting disorders to health professional students/residents/fellows/staff nurses.
- Collaborate with patients of bleeding disorders to consent for studies if needed, obtain necessary data for grant proposals and progress reports including organizing and summarizing statistics if needed.
- Present at regional and national conferences and provide education, literature and consultations to personnel, public and professional organizations/agencies in general and in direct associate with patients of hemophilia, bleeding disorders and infectious disease, regarding these disorders/diseases, treatment administration and additional services provided by the IHTC.
- Mentor health care students and create educational experiences for them in the IHTC and at the Hemophilia summer camp.
- Evaluate and apply evidence-based research and guidelines to develop and implement new policies and procedures to improve patient care in collaboration with other IHTC team members.
- Assist with utilization of factor products, direction, and compliance of the clinical services to our IHTC patients who receive their treatment product from the UI Health Care Hemophilia Home Care Program in accordance with the policies and procedures of the UI Health Care, state professional standards, and all Health Care regulating entity requirements. This includes new referrals/intake and coordination of care.
- Assure safe delivery of care for those with bleeding disorders in clinic and in-patient. Ensure that protocols and policies are followed for patients with bleeding disorders.
- Assist Nurse Manager with recruitment process. Lead onboarding for new team members, including development and monitoring of orientation plans.
- Serve as lead for protocol development.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required.
- Minimum of 1 years of nursing experience, with at least one year of Pediatric nursing and venipuncture/CVAD expertise.
- Registered Nurse with a current, valid Iowa RN license or eligible to become licensed in the state of Iowa.
- May be required to be licensed in surrounding states where UI Health Care HTC patients reside.
- Knowledge of State, Federal, local, JCAHO, ACHC, CMS and OSHA rules and regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the Internet.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Minimum of 2 years of Hemophilia experience is desired.
- Master of Science in Nursing degree is preferred.
- Home Health care experience is desired.
