Type of Position: Direct HireResponsibilities:
- Design & Engineering
- Lead the structural design of PEMB systems for airplane hangars, including large clear-span structures, rolling/folding door systems, and high-load roof assemblies.
- Perform load analysis (wind, snow, seismic, and collateral loads) with emphasis on aviation-specific requirements.
- Ensure compliance with AISC, MBMA, IBC, NFPA, and FAA-related building standards.
- Project Coordination
- Collaborate with in-house architectural and engineering (A&E) teams, contractors, and steel fabricators to develop efficient solutions.
- Review and approve shop drawings, erection drawings, and structural calculations.
- Support project managers in preparing schedules, budgets, and technical submittals.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Conduct peer reviews and value engineering studies to optimize material use and cost without compromising safety.
- Ensure hangar door systems, fire suppression provisions, and ventilation systems are integrated effectively with the PEMB frame.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including RFIs and field inspections.
- Technical Leadership
- Mentor junior engineers on PEMB design methods , software tools, and best practices.
- Stay current with industry trends in PEMB technology, materials, and sustainability.
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (PE license preferred; SE license is a plus)
- 5+ years of experience in structural engineering with at least 3 years in PEMB design
- Direct experience with airplane hangars or large clear-span metal buildings
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., STAAD, RISA, SAP2000, RAM, or similar)
- Knowledge of PEMB software systems (e.g., MBS, Tekla, Eagle, or equivalent)
- Strong background in steel connection design, foundations, and load transfer
- Strong communicator, detail-oriented, problem-solver, and able to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams
- Previous work with major PEMB manufacturers (e.g., Butler, Varco Pruden, Nucor, Metallic, Star, or similar) preferred
- Familiarity with aviation facilities design including hangar door systems, fire codes (NFPA 409), and special MEP coordination preferred
- Experience leading design-build projects with General Contractors or Design-Build firms preferred
