Staff Nurse - Prep and Recovery

• Systematically assesses each patient and develops a comprehensive individualized plan of care that is implemented to achieve optimal patient outcomes as the patient progresses through the perianesthesia phase of care.
• Demonstrates the skills and judgement necessary to implement the medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
• Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, in order to ensure quality care.
• Demonstrates knowledge for administering and recording of medications, can also demonstrate knowledge of commonly used medications: action, dose and side effects.
• Appropriately recognizes patients risk factors for perioperative hypothermia and implements warning measures.
• Demonstrates routine assessments for PONV and implements appropriate rescue treatments.
• Able to perform a comprehensive pain assessment using appropriate pain scales and use both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods to control pain.
• Demonstrates proper skills related to airway management.
• Demonstrates the ability to care for patient with continuous cardiac monitoring including rhythm identification, interpretation and follow through with appropriate intervention.
• Demonstrates knowledge in the assessment and care from the pediatric to geriatric population and their family/caregiver.
• Provides for the safe transfer of care with a communication handoff to the next phase of care.
• Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development.
• Functions as a role model for current and new staff
