As our Fleet & Equipment Manager, you’ll own the strategic and operational oversight of our fleet and equipment programs, leading a dedicated team to ensure our assets are safe, cost-effective, and ready to power our projects. This role is about leadership, strategy, and results. This role is based out of our Longview headquarters.Pay Range
Salary range: $90,000–$135,000 annually, based on experience, qualifications. (FLSA Exempt)Here’s what you’ll take on:
- Leadership & Team Management
- Lead a fast-paced team of in-house mechanics and fleet personnel across multiple locations with confident, fair, and consistent leadership.
- Supervise and mentor your team, fostering accountability through clear expectations, structured processes, and a culture of follow-through.
- Provide guidance and enforce company equipment and fleet policies across all levels of field and project staff, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Build a collaborative, high-performing team environment that drives excellence and pride in the work.
- Fleet & Equipment Operations
- Manage the full lifecycle of vehicle and equipment assets, from procurement and deployment to usage tracking, maintenance, and disposal.
- Oversee vehicle upfit and spec decisions to ensure alignment with JH Kelly’s diverse operational needs.
- Direct routine inspections, certifications, and safety reviews for all rolling stock and heavy equipment to maintain work-ready conditions.
- Lead preventive maintenance programs and streamline work order processes to minimize downtime and optimize costs.
- Business & Financial Management
- Drive smarter decisions by analyzing total cost of ownership (TCO), return on investment (ROI), and rent-vs-buy options for all assets.
- Set and maintain competitive internal rental rates using accurate usage and cost data to maximize returns on owned equipment.
- Monitor third-party rental markets to position JH Kelly competitively, reducing reliance on external rentals while optimizing owned assets.
- Develop and manage budgets for procurement, maintenance, fuel, parts, and repairs, maintaining meticulous records of asset costs, assignments, and service history.
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations across all vehicle and equipment programs, leaving no room for oversight.
- Oversee CDL and non-CDL driver policies, including qualification tracking, training, and drug/alcohol programs, to uphold safety and compliance standards.
- Support rigorous safety and inspection protocols to ensure all equipment is issued in a safe, work-ready condition.
- Proactively address compliance risks to maintain a safety-first culture across all operations.
- Collaboration & Field Support
- Partner directly with field supervisors and project managers to fulfill equipment requisitions and resolve conflicts efficiently.
- Analyze utilization trends to support field teams in matching the right equipment to the right task, boosting project efficiency.
- Balance firm policy enforcement with productive, respectful relationships to support operations teams across our multi-site footprint.
- Act as a trusted ally to field leadership, ensuring equipment availability drives safe and successful project execution.
- Experience: 10+ years managing fleet or construction equipment at scale, ideally in MEP construction or similar industries.
- Skills: Expertise in TCO, ROI, utilization analysis, and internal rental strategy; proficiency in fleet and equipment management systems; strong Excel/Office skills; experience leading vendor relationships and RFPs.
- Mindset: Assertive, professional, and business-savvy, with a drive to improve processes and deliver measurable results.
- Personal Attributes: Strong communicator with a commanding yet approachable presence, able to lead with fairness and build trust across teams.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Logistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Requirements: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
This role requires frequent transitions between office and shop/warehouse settings. You’ll sit for extended periods performing tasks like typing and phone communication, but also lift and carry up to 50 lbs., stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb ladders in shop/warehouse environments. You’ll need stamina for repetitive tasks, dexterity to operate equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks, and the ability to work at heights.
