- Assists in supervising the daily operations of the City's Traffic Engineering Department;
- Supervises the department reviews and approvals of road closure or restriction permits issued from the Right of Way Department;
- Serves as primary contact for improvement location permit and development plan permit applicants for issues related to Traffic Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Trails, and Right of Way;
- Represent the department on various multi-departmental and multi-agency committees;
- Acts as department liaisons for public information services and press releases;
- Oversees the division traffic road closure website, coordinating information for the public;
- Handles citizen questions, complaints, and concerns related to traffic issues;
- Assists in developing Engineering specifications and departmental standards;
- Designs and reviews traffic signal and pedestrian signal systems for departmental projects;
- Determines maintenance of traffic, signs and traffic markings, bid specifications, cost estimates, traffic data and impacts, state and federal law compliance, documentation, etc.;
- Assists in supervising the planning, design, and implementation of traffic control systems, and street lighting;
- Ensures adequate safety procedures are maintained;
- Manages, plans, and designs for ADA Transition Plan projects and upgrades;
- Manages various civil engineering activities related to planning, designing, construction, reconstruction, utility coordination, inspection, and maintenance of various Traffic Engineering projects;
- Performs, evaluates, and recommends engineering analyses of traffic and street lighting activities, traffic control systems, traffic flow conditions, accidents, problems, complaints, conflicts and remedial possibilities and assists with preparation of investigations and reports;
- Process applications for various permits in conformance with Access Standards Manual and Public Works Transportation Engineering Standards;
- Utilizes traffic software programs and database management programs;
- Any combination of education/experience equivalent to a Baccalaureate in Civil Engineering or related Engineering and one (1) year experience in Traffic Engineering work, or an Associate Degree in such fields and six (6) years experience in such work;
- Specialized knowledge of engineering principles, procedures, methods and materials related to traffic engineering with at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering projects.
- Broad knowledge of City of Fort Wayne ordnances as relates to traffic items such as street lighting and traffic control devices;
- Ability to manage the coordination and administration and inspection of Traffic Engineering projects;
- Communication skills conducive to maintaining effective working relationships with both public and private sector personnel and to handle citizen complaints;
- Ability to utilize design software desired;
- Understanding of traffic signal plan reading and MUTCD Standards
- Valid Indiana Driver's License if City vehicle is used;
- IMSA Workzone Traffic Control Safety & Signs & Markings Level 1 or higher, or ability to obtain within 1 year;
