From our humble beginnings as a gathering of parents and concerned citizens who wanted to provide educational and training opportunities for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities, The Resource Center has grown into a comprehensive agency providing services to thousands of persons with all types and levels of disabilities.The Resource Center is the largest non-governmental employer in Chautauqua County with more than 1,300 employees on its payroll.The mission of The Resource Center is to support individuals with disabilities and other challenges in achieving maximum independence, contributing to their community, experiencing lifelong growth, and enjoying quality of life.TITLE: PODIATRISTRESPONSIBLE TO: Executive DirectorFUNCTION:Podiatrists treat a variety of foot and ankle ailments, including calluses, ingrown toenails, heel spurs, and arch problems. They also treat foot and leg problems associated with diabetes and other diseases. Some podiatrists spend most of their time performing advanced surgeries, such as foot and ankle reconstruction.Podiatrists are healthcare professionals who have been trained to diagnose and treat abnormal conditions of the feet and lower limbs. ... They can also treat and alleviate day-to-day foot problems, including: toenail problems, such as thickened toenails, fungal nail infections or ingrown toenails. corns and calluses.SPECIFIC DUTIES: * Assess the condition of a patient’s feet, ankles, or lower legs by reviewing the medical history, listening to the patient’s concerns, and performing a physical examination
  • Diagnose foot, ankle, and lower-leg problems through physical exams, x-rays, medical laboratory tests, and other methods
  • Provide treatment for foot, ankle, and lower leg ailments, such as prescribing special shoe inserts (orthotics) to improve a patient’s mobility
  • Perform foot and ankle surgeries, such as removing bone spurs and correcting foot and ankle deformities
  • Give advice and instruction on foot and ankle care and on general wellness techniques
  • Prescribe medications
  • Refer patients to other physicians or specialists if they detect larger health problems, such as diabetes
  • Read journals and attend conferences to keep up with advances in podiatric medicine
  • Complete all required documentation
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to work with a diverse cross-section of general population, as well as, populations with special needs. Abilities commensurate with those of current Podiatry. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a timely manner. Flexibility regarding working hours. Physical condition commensurate with job responsibilities.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Must be a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine or DPM or orthopedists (MDs or DOs) from an accredited college or university.
