- Review the Common Manufacturing Execution System (CMES) or other work order information to make sure previous operations are complete and following operations are accurate Obtain drawings, if required
- Ensure that the correct quantity of parts, correct type and quantity of material, and the correct tools or fixtures are with the work package. Check the tool(s) for damage
- Move heavy material and tools to the work area using lifts or overhead cranes, if required. Ask for assistance from co-workers as needed
- Identify type and quantity of set ups required per the W/O, drawings, verbal and tooling instructions
- Select and check cutting tools. Ensure cutters are the correct length, diameter, radius, height and flute geometry for the job and in good condition
- Choose the proper bushing or finger guide for proper set back, as required per the tool/cutter
- Set up shaper, install cutter, bushing, finger guides, and/or other standard tools, tighten using hand tools. Have a second set of eyes check set up for functionality and safety, as required
- Load part(s) on tool, clamp in place, run first part and obtain first part check, as required
- Run remaining parts on order, check parts periodically to ensure correct configuration. Adjust hand feed rate to ensure proper edge finish on parts, per Boeing (BAC) specifications
- Check part dimensions with precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, six inch scale), as required
- Handwork parts to clean up trimmed areas (e.g., radius or edge finish), as required, per BAC
- Remove all sharp edges from part with a de-burring tool and/or file, as required
- Clean parts, equipment and tools, as required
- Check work after completion of each operation to ensure parts are complete per tool, W/O, and/or drawing, quantity matches W/O requirements and that there are no defects (e.g., trim size, edge finish)
- Sell in-process checks to inspector, as required by W/O or shop policy
- Maintain personal and tool certifications, as required
- Contact team leader, supervisor, or co-worker with questions, when assistance is needed or when any problem arises
- Obtain work package from Materials Management Specialists as delivered to work station, or assigned by area lead, supervisor, or run previously set-up job by reviewing tie-in from prior operator
- Check and ensure all safety features/guards are properly attached before operation of the tool
- Calculate/determine location and sequence of cuts to produce the required quantity of parts from the minimum of material
- Obtain and set up appropirate shipping container for material being sheared. Interleaf using plastic and cardboard to protect surface metal through out job cycle
- Order material for job using on line computer system (e.g., sheet metal archive and retrieval system (SMARTS) or remnant rack, as required
