- Perform regular inspections, cleaning, maintenance and repair of stormwater drainage systems ensuring proper functionality.
- Operate a vacuum truck as needed to remove sediment, debris, and blockages from stormwater infrastructure.
- Conduct inspections of stormwater systems to identify areas requiring cleaning or maintenance.
- Perform preventative maintenance on the vacuum truck to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
- Follow safety protocols and traffic control procedures during vacuum truck operations to protect personnel, equipment, and the public.
- Assist in the execution of preventative maintenance plans for stormwater systems, identifying potential issues before they escalate.
- Respond to stormwater-related emergencies, such as flooding or system blockages, to restore proper drainage promptly.
- Ensure all stormwater activities comply with environmental regulations, including the proper disposal of collected materials.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs, and generate reports to track stormwater system performance.
- Support public education efforts related to stormwater management and assist in addressing community concerns about stormwater systems.
- Work collaboratively with other municipal departments and staff to plan and execute stormwater-related projects effectively.
- Obtain quarterly samples and perform inspections to ensure compliance with stormwater regulations.
- Operate a variety of equipment, such as trucks, forklifts, backhoes, and jackhammers, to complete assigned tasks.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, ensure safe loading/unloading, and perform basic maintenance and repairs.
- Attend safety meetings and follow established safety protocols to protect personnel, equipment, and the public.
- Attends all assigned meetings.
- Performs emergency response tasks and assignments as directed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma/GED; two (2) years of related experience.
- Water Distribution License level is dependent based on the specific duties of role.
- Quality Stormwater Inspector Certification.
- Minimum of (3) three year's experience successfully operating a vacuum truck.
- Proficient operation and maintenance of vacuum trucks and related equipment.
- Principles and practices of stormwater management and drainage systems.
- Operation and maintenance of municipal water, sewer, and irrigation systems.
- Safety standards and traffic control requirements for work zones.
- Applicable municipal, state, and federal regulations regarding stormwater and environmental compliance.
- Various types of manual, gas, or diesel powered equipment employed in maintenance and repair of municipal water, sewer and irrigation systems and/or related structures.
- Occupational safety rules, practices and personal protective equipment associated with performing duties using heavy equipment, in traffic and in adverse weather conditions.
- Inventory and preventive maintenance principles and practices.
- Daily inspection and identification of defects and maintenance requirements.
- Proficiency in operating equipment, including vacuum trucks, backhoes, forklifts, and hand tools.
- Diagnosing and resolving issues related to vacuum truck operations and stormwater system maintenance.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills for record-keeping and task prioritization.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members, supervisors, and the public.
- Problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues effectively.
- The safe use and operation of various maintenance and repair tools and light gas- or diesel-powered equipment.

- The position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Tasks involve frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, some unassisted lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavy objects up to 100 pounds with the assistance of other employees and/or equipment as appropriate. Requires excellent eye/hand/foot coordination for operating standard and specialized electrical and gas- operated equipment.
- This position requires the ability to perform strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and potentially dangerous environments for field or emergency related work as needed.
