Description of Work

Serving as an engaged member of the Business Advising and Student Engagement Team (BASE) team, the Academic Advisor will advise undergraduate students in the College of Business on academic and student success topics using inclusive advising strategies. This position works primarily one-on-one with students to engage in collaborative advising conversations and share developmentally appropriate feedback regarding academic/course planning, degree progress, and engagement in co-curricular opportunities.

The Academic Advisor proactively supports the academic and social needs of undergraduate business students, especially first-generation, low-income and/or underrepresented college students. This role will also identify and provide support for students struggling academically and/or personally and make appropriate referrals to support services. The individual will collaborate with the BASE team and other offices to develop and support initiatives to aid student retention and success efforts.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree plus two (2) years of experience with students in 1:1 or group advising settings. Master's degree in a related field may substitute for experience. Demonstrated ability or experience working with diverse populations necessary. Must have strong oral and written communication skills. Must demonstrate ability to learn and stay current on complex requirements, policies, and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, business, or related field preferred. Experience with college/university-level students helpful. Experience with academic and/or social support for first-generation, low-income and/or underrepresented college students desirable. Experience using advising software programs and/or student information systems helpful. Demonstrated advising and/or counseling skills desirable.
