
Safety & Environmental Technician

- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments; identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and injuries; assist with root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Support safety training programs, onboarding sessions, toolbox talks, and emergency response drills.
- Maintain accurate safety records including OSHA 300 logs, training records, and inspection checklists.
- Assist with job hazard analyses (JHAs), lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and fall protection compliance.
- Coordinate with supervisors and employees to ensure a safe work environment is maintained at all times.
- Monitor and document environmental compliance activities related to air emissions, wastewater discharge, hazardous waste, and chemical storage.
- Support the collection, labeling, storage, and proper disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste per EPA and DOT requirements.
- Perform inspections and audits related to stormwater systems, spill prevention (SPCC), and waste accumulation areas.
- Maintain SDS records and chemical inventories in accordance with OSHA Hazard Communication and GHS standards.
- Assist in environmental reporting (e.g., Tier II, TRI, waste manifests, emission inventories) and data tracking.
- Conduct environmental training sessions and awareness programs for employees.
- Participate in sustainability and pollution prevention initiatives such as energy use tracking, waste reduction, and recycling programs.
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred.
- 1 year of experience or an internship in industrial safety and/or environmental compliance is preferred.
- Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, RCRA, DOT, and state-specific environmental regulations.
- Strong organizational and data management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with EHS software a plus.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to work in both office and industrial environments, including manufacturing floors, outdoors, and confined spaces.
- Regular standing, walking, climbing ladders/stairs, and lifting (up to 35 lbs).
- Exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and potential chemical hazards (with appropriate PPE).
