The department of Information Technology Services at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Information Technology Support Specialist (Professional Technologist 1). This is an on-site position in Morgantown, WV.About the OpportunityThe Information Technology Support Specialist (Professional Technologist 1) provides front-line desktop, network, and application support to faculty, staff, and students in WVU’s Health Science Center. Position responsibilities include network account management, training end users, researching new technologies, and deploying IT solutions. This position plays a key role in supporting approximately 4,000 devices within the Health Science Campus enterprise-level environment.We strongly believe in work-life balance and keeping time for things we love outside our work.   • Provide direct support for Windows and Mac systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Teams, Zoom, and a variety of specialized academic and research applications.
  • Install, configure, and maintain desktop hardware, printers, peripherals, and mobile devices.
  • Support clinical research devices and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues across desktop, LAN, and VoIP systems.
  • Support AV equipment in conference rooms.
  • Perform operating system deployments using SCCM, Azure, and JAMF.
  • Ensure endpoint protection, updates, and onboarding/offboarding compliance in coordination with IT Security.
Network and Telecommunications
  • Provide network support including switch port configurations, jack testing, and network interface card troubleshooting.
  • Support and troubleshoot data and voice connectivity issues.
Security and Compliance
  • Ensure systems comply with university and federal data security regulations (including PHI and PII).
  • Coordinate with WVU Information Security Services on security assessments for vendor-hosted and on-prem systems.
Documentation, Research, and Training
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and inventory for Health Affairs IT assets.
  • Provide training sessions for faculty, staff, and students on systems, applications, and processes.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or computer science related degree
A minimum of 0-1 years of experience involving:
  • IT support experience in an enterprise or complex technical environment
  • Experience managing, troubleshooting and supporting multiple technological equipment
  • Experience with operating systems deployment
Customer Support experience
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting Windows and Mac OS, Microsoft Office 365, and various hardware platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to document technical procedures and communicate technical information clearly.
Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and maintain knowledge through self-directed learning.
