POSITION SUMMARY:Graymont’s Pleasant Gap Plant in Pennsylvania, is seeking a Lab Technician. The successful candidate must be able to work well with coworkers and department heads and must be a self-starter who is able to work without direct supervision. The position requires attention to detail, a high level of organization, and the ability to multitask. The position will be in the Pleasant Gap Plant Laboratory and candidates must possess a willingness to learn proper sample preparation, analytical instruments, and analytical procedures.The position will be Monday through Friday, 8a-4p.The position also requires the successful candidate to work 1 weekend every 4 weeks, in rotation with the other lab technicians. Weekends are paid as overtime. The successful candidate must have completed the training required and be part of that rotation within 6 months after the start date.All applicants will be evaluated on an individual basis to ensure they meet the requirements of the position.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:· Conduct activities related to the laboratory operation. (Quality samples from the quarry to the finished product).· Provide the highest standards in sample preparation, sample analysis, and safety and health.· Assist in the development of new methods to improve lab efficiency.· Communicate with other team members and with other departments.· Assist with environmental testing, reporting, and compliance· Perform other duties as assigned and be willing to work after hours and weekends as necessary.QUALIFICATIONS:· Must be a self-starter who is able to work without direct supervision.· Successful candidate must possess a high level of organization and ability to multitask.· Willingness to learn proper sample preparation, analytical instruments (XRF, LECO, etc.), and analytical procedures.· Experience with MS Office required· Willingness to work weekends in rotation with other lab technicians· Able to lift 50 pounds and sit or stand for long periods of time· Prior laboratory experience a plus
Justification: The lab tech team is relying on a team of 4 tech. One of them just gave her resignation letter.
Risk(s): Failing to fill a position left vacant by the resigned lab tech may lead to increased workload and stress on the remaining team members (specially for weekends work rotation), potentially impacting their job satisfaction and productivity. Second, it could result in delays or errors in the production process, affecting the plant's output and quality control. Third, the absence of a critical team member might hinder the ability to compliance standards in a regulated industry, potentially leading to regulatory violations and associated penalties. Finally, not filling the position promptly may also limit the plant's ability to adapt to changing market demands and seize new opportunities, potentially affecting its competitiveness and profitability.
