SummaryInspects, operates, and calibrates equipment in a water or wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift. Performs routine lab analysis and maintains on-going results of analysis and lab equipment calibration.Essential Functions
  • Maintain proper treatment plant records, logs, and shift reports.
  • Maintain proper treatment process control by backwashing filters, flushing valves, adjusting and balancing plant flow, adjusting chemical dosages, and other required tasks; record readings from meters, gauges, and other measuring devices.
  • Monitor treatment plant equipment to determine operating condition.
  • Obtain plant samples; perform daily process control analyses as scheduled and required; make standardized observations; report results.
  • Maintain appearance of plant buildings, equipment, and grounds; clean debris from basins, filters, basements, buildings, pumps, and grounds; clean assigned areas and keep them orderly, clean shared work vehicle.
  • Provide input regarding operational improvements in the areas of safety, process efficiency, and public image.
  • Work on special projects as assigned by supervisory personnel.
  • Perform related job duties as required.
QualificationsCompletion of a high school diploma or GED certificate with a preferred two years of relevant experience; or any combination of relevant experience which provides the following:Must obtain a TCEQ Class 'D' Water or Wastewater Certification within one year.Must attain a TCEQ Class 'C' Water or Wastewater Certification within two years.Valid Current Driver's LicensePhysical Exam Required*** Critical Infrastructure: This position has been determined to have close contact with, or control of Critical Infrastructure components. This position is subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening. ***Knowledge and AbilitiesKnowledge of:
  • Principles and methods of water or wastewater treatment;
  • Safe Drinking Water Act for Water; Clean Water Act for Wastewater;
  • OSHA and in-house safety manual.
Ability to:
  • Work days, evenings, midnights, rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, on call;
  • Monitor and control treatment plant equipment;
  • Interpret written instructions;
  • Work cooperatively with others;
  • Operate a computer keyboard;
  • Perform duties in noisy working conditions;
  • Use self-contained breathing apparatus as required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees.
  • Frequently walk up and down stairs, climb ladders.
  • Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing.
  • Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement.
  • Place arms above, at, or below shoulder height.
  • Frequently walk and stand during the shift.
