
Audio Visual (AV) Technician

- Install, configure, and operate AV equipment including projectors, microphones, speakers, video conferencing systems, and control systems.
- Provide on-site technical support for live events, lectures, and meetings.
- Troubleshoot and resolve AV issues in real-time to minimize disruptions.
- Maintain and update AV inventory, ensuring equipment is in good working condition.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and event coordinators to understand AV needs and deliver effective solutions.
- Assist in training end-users on AV system usage and best practices.
- Document AV setups, procedures, and maintenance logs.
- Stay current with emerging AV technologies and recommend upgrades or improvements.
- Strong understanding of AV system design, installation, and troubleshooting with experience in programming and configuration of AV systems, especially Extron products.
- Ability to use ladders as well as perform lifting and bending associated with installation, troubleshooting of audio-visual systems.
- Knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., IP, TCP/IP) and integration with AV systems.
- Familiarity with audio, video, and control system components, including amplifiers, speakers, projectors, switches, control processors, signal processors, and matrix switchers. As stated previously, experience with Extron branded equipment is preferred.
- Ability to interpret and implement technical documentation, including schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team on multiple projects.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail including troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving performance issues with presentation systems and electronics components.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to interact with clients, engineers, and other technicians.
- Preferred Certification in Extron products (e.g., Extron Certified Professional) or other relevant AV certifications.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of hands-on experience in AV system integration, with a focus on Extron products.
- Experience working in a higher education environment with knowledge of classroom audio-visual systems, Lecture Hall presentation systems, or conference room collaboration.
- Exposure to broad array of audio-visual technology manufactures to including but not limited to: Crestron, AMX, Lightware, Shure, Epson, Panasonic, Sony, LG, Samsung, etc.
- Understanding of industry standards and best practices for AV installations in educational settings.
- Familiarity with project management software tools, with the ability to manage time effectively and meet project deadlines.
- Knowledge of ADA compliance and accessibility standards for AV systems in higher education.
