Position Summary**WE ARE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION FROM ALL STUDENTS REGARDLESS OF WORK STUDY AWARD**The MaLL (Math Learning Lab) is seeking knowledgeable, dedicated tutors that want to help students succeed in Mathematics. The MaLL is a computer lab that utilizes Aleks software and scheduled tutors for Math 1215XYZ, Intermediate Algebra. Students work through topics during class time and will raise their hand to ask various math/class related questions. The lab is open 9 am - 2 pm, Monday - Friday, with tutors being scheduled throughout the day to help students during class and outside of it. Generally speaking, there is the potential to work 10-15 hours a week. This can possibly include a few remote hours of online tutoring via Zoom, depending on current scheduling and student body needs; however, this position is quite predominantly an in-person role.MaLL tutors are expected to help students with any questions they may have as they work through and to help proctor the test once they've finished all Aleks topics. Most of these students are first-year; tutors are expected to actively try to be an encouraging and positive presence for what can be a difficult class.Preferred Qualifications
- Communication skills - must be able to explain "lower level" math
- Prior tutoring experience
- A commitment to upholding an inclusive learning environment, including helping students from various cultures and academic backgrounds.
- High grades/academic achievement in Math classes

Preferred QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Must be an active UNM Student, enrolled in at least 6 credit hours and progressing towards a degree
- Must have received at least a “B” in College Algebra; 3.0 GPA cumulative
- At least 10 hours of availability throughout the week (Monday - Friday)
- Experience in tutoring or teaching - especially if Mathematics related
- Good oral, written, and interpersonal skills
- Detail oriented, ability to simplify and explain math concepts in a variety of ways
- Academic success in Mathematics or Math Education courses
- Ability to patiently communicate with students from varying communities & academic histories, in a respectful and effective manner
