CCD values the ability to work effectively with students, families, faculty, instructors and staff of diverse backgrounds.GENERAL SUMMARYThis position will principally serve Theatre but will also serve Music DWD and the Recording Arts AAS as needed. The Technical Coordinator performs all activities associated with theater productions, i.e. production scheduling, planning, and budgeting; ordering and purchasing production materials; maintaining and repairing equipment and supplies; ensuring sets and production areas are safe and clean; communicating with instructors, directors, set designing, costume designers, students, and work study employees concerning production activities and scheduling; supervising hourly and work-study personnel; developing and maintaining record keeping systems for production supplies/materials, semester schedules, and assisting with course planning and scheduling related to productions. The Technical Coordinator must command strong communication and organizational skills, and must demonstrate commitment to fostering and supporting a teaching, learning, and working environment that honors diversity, equity, and inclusion.PRIMARY DUTIESManagementTechnical Coordinator will manage scheduling in production, including:
  • Designer meetings
  • Manage build schedule, coordinating with classes in the space
  • Upholding deadlines across all technical departments
  • Scheduling and coordinating all events and auxillary spaces in the King Center spaces
  • Hiring, training, and managing Work-Study students.
  • Managing and approving Work-Study timesheets
  • Represent CCD at Tri-Institutional THUGS (Theatre User's Group) meetings
  • Represent CCD at Tri-Instiututional ECC (Event's Coordination Committee) meetings
  • Oversee the coordination of departmental advertising, marketing, and promotion
SupervisionTechnical Coordinator will be responsible for supervision of students working in the space as well as upholding all safety protocols in the space. Specifics include:
  • Providing safety training on equipment and hardware for all Work-Study and Production students including proper use of power tools, genie lift, table saws, hand tools, fall arrest training, rigging, and use of the catwalk in the Rawls and the Eisenhower grid in the Studio Theatre
  • Provide supervision for all aspects of show builds in the space including construction, hanging instruments, rigging, lighting, sound, and painting.
  • The Technical Director is required to be present to manage ALL load-ins, technical rehearsals (dry, wet, and dress), as well as strike for all events in CCD spaces.
  • The Technical Director is required to serve as Event Lead for all events, including invited dress rehearsals and performances.
  • Technical Coordinator will also be responsible for scheduling and coordinating Fire Marshall inspections and compliance for each show, per new code requirements.
MaintenanceTechnical Coordinator will be responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of CCD spaces, including:
  • Coaching Work-Study students on how to properly clean and care for spaces
  • Keeping all equipment and facilities up to date and within safety regulations
  • Modify and configure CCD spaces (performance and auxillary) to meet departmental needs
BudgetTechnical Coordinator will oversee production budget. This includes:
  • Making initial estimates based on designs
  • Coordinating between departments to maintain adherence to production budget
  • Oversee purchases and log receipts
  • Processing Check Request and Official Function forms
Other Duties as Assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education (Minimum/Required):
  • Associate degree in Theatre or any closely associated degree.
Experience (Minimum/Required):
  • Two (2) years of experience working in aspects of technical theatre productions including set design/construction
  • AHEC safety certification (covers harnessing for heights, power tools usage, and chemicals)
  • Familiarity with standard level program courses in Theatre.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (Minimum/Required)
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Proficiency in computers - able to use different programs, keep track of ordering and inventory, assist in experimental development, etc.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
