Service is the foundation of Trane’s lifecycle connectivity with the customer. This leader fosters a collaborative and supportive partnership with all Trane business streams and builds an engaged, high-performance service organization that delivers operational excellence and creates long-term customer loyalty. This role is a member of the Iowa Leadership Team and includes ownership of the Service P&L. Key responsibilities include partnership with sales teams, growth of our service base, management of people and resources, validation of project estimates, review of burden labor rates, maintenance of labor rates, ownership of business operating systems and processes, field service coordination, management of Area Service Managers, oversight of invoicing and collections, and customer satisfaction.This position is eligible for a Hybrid work schedule and will be based out of our Des Moines, Davenport, or Cedar Rapids locations. Flexible work from home options are available.
Responsibilities:
- Ownership of the Iowa Service business, including total P&L, organization, talent acquisition, people development, strategic planning and investments.
- Directly manage multiple Area Service Managers and service project managers across the area.
- Indirect oversight of service personnel, field service coordination functions, and work in process. This includes service calls, troubleshooting and repair, service agreements execution and compliance, upgrades, retrofits, refurbishments, rental solutions, digital services, equipment installation and startup coordination.
- Effective management of key performance indicators including gross margin, operating income, fulfillment expense, applied labor and absorption rates, contract compliance, safety, customer satisfaction, and employee engagement.
- Partner with sales to grow service base, attract and retain new customers, set burden labor rates, market labor rates, and pricing levels.
- Effectively attract, recruit, coach, mentor, train, develop and retain talent. Drive continuous improvement through company performance management process and technical product training programs. Develop employee skill levels, including customer service, communication skills, operational excellence.
- Maximize cash flow by ensuring invoices are generated immediately and accurately upon completion of work, managing expense budgets, and increasing productivity of the service team. Ensure that standard service work processes are created and followed. Improve transactional processes impacting the customer experience and increase overall customer satisfaction.
- Ensure environmental, health and safety compliance within service team. Provide training to all employees to ensure a safe and productive work environment both in the shop and at customer sites.
- Travel to job sites is required, which may include outdoor work and/or work in mechanical/equipment rooms, site safety evaluations, etc. During the site visits, the employee may be exposed to variable weather conditions, moving or loud mechanical equipment, stairs, ladders, tight spaces, heights/roofs, and other variable environmental conditions requiring adaptation.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, business or equivalent from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or;
- Graduation from a technical or vocational school, apprenticeship, or cumulative education and experience resulting in obtainment of journeyman’s or master technicians license, plus at least 10 years of technical work experience in the HVAC/R or related field.
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a commercial/industrial sales business setting. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in managing teams of people, processes, and budgets.
- Proficient with computer systems, Microsoft applications including Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Ability to read and understand financial statements, P&L statements, create business plans, write business justifications, and presentations is strongly preferred.
