- Comprehensive understanding of OSHA regulations and other compliance agencies, State and Federal standards.
- Conducts daily inspections to evaluate hazards & implement corrective actions at our shop, warehouse, yard, and job sites for safety, health, and environmental risks.
- Performs administrative tasks, which may include typing, copying, filing and record-keeping.
- Coordinates and manages safety programs at the direction of the safety director to ensure a safe working environment consistent with company, client, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
- Assist in pre-project hazard analysis, to determine the hazards and engineer them out of the process prior to the task being performed.
- Conducts onsite stand downs as needed.
- Assists in conducting new employee safety orientations for all newly hired employees.
- Monitors and enforces policies and procedures to implement and maintain safety measures.
- Assists in incident prevention, reporting and investigations.
- Evaluates and determines procedures for JSA’s to eliminate or control identified hazards.
- Assist the Safety director in maintaining our electronic system for reporting, monitoring and correcting safety problems.
- Interface with customers, safety personnel, project managers, site superintendents, and other owner representatives with concerns, input, and issues involving safety.
- Participates and works with OSHA representatives during inspections of plant safety and issues reports documenting safety concerns and corrective actions taken.
- Assists Safety director & HR manager in post incident drug testing, and non-compliance of safety policies.
- Attends relevant safety seminars and safety committee meetings to ensure ongoing preparedness on topics related to safety improvement and hazard prevention.
- Trains and advises personnel on all safety issues through safety stand downs, Toolbox talks, bulletins, memos, job site classes and meetings to establish a proactive approach to providing a safe working environment.
- Willingness to travel, when/if required.
- Assists with/communicates with medical providers about the best course of action to take with an injured employee and assist with workers compensation.
- 5 years safety related experience, preferably with experience in industrial environments, underground utility construction with a concentration in excavation operations, earthwork, shoring/protective systems, safe digging, pile driving, foundations, etc.
- OSHA 510 OSHA Standards for the Construction Industry preferred or willing to obtain.
- OSHA 30 preferred, but not required.
- Working knowledge of OSHA CFR 1926 standards
- Power Industrial Truck Train the Trainer preferred or willing to obtain.
- First Aid, CPR training preferred or willing to obtain.
- Demonstrate conduct conforming to a set of values and accepted standards.
- Ability to build rapport with field supervision and employees and maintain positive relationships.
- Ability to influence others to perform their jobs effectively and to be responsible
- Ability to manage sensitive information with high level of confidentiality.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong interpersonal and active listening skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail, highly organized, self-starter with ability to prioritize tasks and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Behavior Based Safety is a plus.
- 2-5 years of construction experience
- Driving a vehicle/sitting for periods of time.
- Ability to walk/stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in field and office environment.
- Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.
- Ability to lift more than 20lbs.
- Ability to climb stairs.
