- Reports directly to the General Manager or Technical Operations Manager.
- Assist the creation of annual, site-specific environmental, health and safety targets and objectives for the site in order to measurably reduce exposure to the site’s most significant health and safety risks and environmental impacts.
- Identifies action-based EHS goals for site leadership team members and supervisors to support achievement of site-specific EHS targets and objectives.
- Function as the site level expert in the company’s Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) database to manage data related to health and safety events such as injuries, workers compensation claims, near miss incidents and internal and external inspections.
- Manages implementation of the Valmont’ global safety and environmental standards which includes, but is not limited to, Hazardous Energy Control/Lockout, Confined Space Entry and Waste Storage.
- Assist the deployment of environmental, health and safety teams (e.g., Safety Committee, Green Team, etc.) and facilitates their engagement in ownership of the activities required to maintain compliance, reduce the site’s environmental footprint and drive continuous improvement.
- Assist with development and maintenance of training processes to ensure that required environmental, health and safety training is defined, addresses required content and is tracked to completion. Such training would include, but not limited to:
- New employee training/on-boarding
- Forklift training
- Crane and overhead equipment training
- New equipment or new jobsite training
- Annual employee training
- Other training as needed
- Reporting and permit submittals for multi-media environmental regulatory requirements (Tier II, Biennial, Storm Water, Division of Air Quality)
- Serves as the site’s initial point-of-contact with national and local environmental, health and safety regulatory agencies.
- Daily, weekly, and monthly safety inspections of the plant layout, equipment operation, and employee PPE, and other tasks as outlined below:
- Monitor floor and pit management program and correct any deficiencies
- Inspection and correction of ladders, slings, harness, fire prevention, and other safety related equipment.
- Oversee and direct hazardous material shipments, tank and pit cleaning, and employee involvement in working with hazardous materials and locations.
- Completing, monitoring, and correcting safety oriented work orders.
- Issues and monitors restrictive permits: Roof Access, Confined Space, and Hot Work.
- Participates as Entry Supervisor for confined space work. Including air monitoring and safety watch
- DOT Training /Certification – Hazardous Waste Classification and Packaging
- Participation in Utah County LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee)
- Ensures proper inventory levels and provides site-purchasing support.
- Coordinates purchase orders and logistics.
- Assists sales team with forecasting and inventory planning, generating, releasing purchase orders, and managing shipment logistics.
- Locates and maintains the best sources of components, materials, and services required for business operation and sustainability.
- Works closely with manufacturing to ensure the correct components and quantities are available for production.
- Other functions and duties as requested by the GM or Technical Operations Manager.
- Daily engagement with employees on the floor to foster a cooperative safety program
- Observation of employees while performing their duties to ensure compliance to safety programs and regulations.
- Conduct all safety meetings and safety committee meetings.
- Assist with collection and data entry of all safety contacts and hazard identifications
- Conduct accident and near miss investigations, determine root cause and implement appropriate countermeasures
- Assist with collection and data entry of all environmental regulatory requirements.
- Manage waste storage area, including record keeping, tracking and disposal.
- Attend EHS and related meetings via internet and commercial travel.
- All other duties as directed by the General Manager or Technical Operations Manager.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook
- The ability to work in a cooperative manner and communicate effectively in a positive manner with all levels of the organization as well as with vendors and suppliers.
- The ability to read, interpret and develop safety policies, procedures, training materials and standard operating instructions and procedural manuals
- Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
- Associate’s Degree
- 1-2 years of experience in galvanizing or a related industry
- Experience using Lean methodology in a manufacturing environment
- Experience utilizing and maintaining Environmental Health and Safety database programs
