JOB TITLE: Peer SpecialistDEPARTMENT: State Opioid ResponseREPORTS TO: Clinical Programming and Grant ManagerJOB SUMMARYThe Peer Specialist is responsible for providing services as specified in a treatment and recovery plan. The Peer Specialist may be utilized for clients with high acuity needs and situations such as crisis response, early and serious mental health issues, hospital settings, substance use disorders, with co-occurring chronic disease, re-entry and transitions, and can be helpful for court supervised treatment programs and other judicial-connected programs. The Peer Specialist will be an integral part of the State Targeted Response (STR) grant, also referred to as Opioid Grants.JOB REQUIREMENTSMust be 18 years of age or older. High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).EXPERIENCEExperienced significant mental health and/or substance use challenges and is now in recovery from those challenges and demonstrates a solid foundation of recovery.SKILLSMust be proficient in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite products, and willing to learn program applications.REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONSWyoming Peer Support Certification as required by the State of Wyoming.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Provide expertise and consultation to clients and treatment team to promote a culture in which each client’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated.
  • Assist clients to direct their own recovery and advocacy process; to utilize client self-determination and decision-making; to foster hope; to create self-determined recovery plans; and to utilize natural resources within the community.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records regarding progress, services provided, and other required information. Meet report submission deadlines.
  • Review and evaluate program progress, utilizing Best Practices, in relation to specific strategies, measurable goals, and community needs.
  • Confer with other professionals to evaluate community needs, specific program strategy needs, and participation target groups.
  • Intervene as needed in the role of advocate for program participants to resolve problems or issues.
  • Provide community education, including information about addiction issues, available services and programs as directed.
  • Attend required training sessions for certification and to increase knowledge or issues.
  • Coordinate activities with community agencies and participants if appropriate.
  • Instruct and/or inform as needed or requested others in program strategies, procedures, and functions.
  • Follow and document progress of strategies of the program to determine effectiveness in cooperation with designated program coordinator.
  • Assure knowledge of community agencies/organizations, contacts, and services offered.
  • Adhere to all standards of confidentiality, assuring confidentiality of clients, clinical materials, and all legally protected information at all times and in all modalities, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.
  • Positively represent the agency in the community, maintaining functional and productive relationships with other agencies, individuals, and businesses.
  • Assure appearance and behavior reflect the professional image of the agency and are consistent with task expectations.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled supervision.
  • Demonstrate flexible scheduling to meet the needs of clients served.
  • Complete all Relias Learning courses as assigned.
  • Assure the application of, and adherence to, all safety standards and requirements.
  • Provide program related, community-based services when indicated and directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and not specified above.
