Follow @blackstone on , , and .Key responsibilitiesThis role will lead Blackstone’s effort to find, design, and implement better ways of working, both internally and with law firm partners. The role will focus on identifying the latest and most effective technologies to implement in L&C and developing the related business cases, driving those projects and other transformational change across Blackstone (e.g., tech implementation, in collaboration with other functions and BUs), and taking these ideas to help rethink how Blackstone works with its trusted law firm partners.The SVP will manage a team responsible for critical aspects of L&C tech, implementation, knowledge management, and change management.This role requires a strategic leader with expertise in operations, tech, and analysis—and a relentless curiosity to understand a rapidly evolving tech landscape.1. Identifying and developing business cases for L&C innovationActively researches the latest in AI and tech, sources ideas for tech enablement within L&C, and learns L&C’s needs/processes to find solutions.Lead the development of business cases for L&C technology initiatives, including ROI projections and implementation roadmaps.Ensure legal and compliance innovation initiatives are scalable and adaptable across global jurisdictions, considering local regulations and cultural nuances.2. Driving transformational change across L&C workCoordinate teams implementing L&C’s tech solutions, including direct reports and Blackstone’s tech team (e.g., onboarding leading Legal AI vendors).Guide knowledge management efforts, ensuring documentation of best practices and tools, vendor management and feedback, etc.Lead change management to drive adoption of new technologies, including AI, and processes across L&C teams (e.g., training and ensuring solution design leads to adoption). Create clear and regular engagement with stakeholders, including the L&C group and Blackstone more broadly.Track and report on the impact of technology initiatives, ensuring successful adoption and integration.3. Law firm relationship managementDevelop & execute strategies to strengthen relationships with law firms, including opportunities to reduce inefficient work and create new fee structures.Lead preparation for annual law firm rate negotiations; oversee collection of information about law firm engagement (e.g., matters, feedback, spend).Facilitate regular feedback and collaboration dialogues with select law firm partners.Help Blackstone drive change with law firms (e.g., adopting new technologies) and within investor teams (e.g., efficient sourcing strategies for counsel).Excellent collaboration is required, as the candidate will be expected to inspire cross-functional teams, influence senior leaders, and drive cultural change across the organization. They will be expected to foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and teamwork within L&C and beyond. The work will frequently overlap with Blackstone’s tech, procurement, finance teams, as well as individual business units.This role will also be responsible for shaping and monitoring performance metrics across all projects. Given the dynamic nature of the work and the large number of projects, the Head of L&C Innovation will periodically review the overall workplan and priorities with the broader L&C leadership team.QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree required, experience in computer science a plus. JD or equivalent legal qualification preferred; MBA or advanced degree in business, operations, or technology is a plus.Experience: 10+ years of leadership experience in operations, technology, legal and compliance, or related fields, with expertise in driving innovation and change management. Consulting and banking experience are highly valued.Technology Expertise: Proven track record implementing tech solutions and optimizing workflows at scale; experience assessing and designing tech platforms to meet business needs. Understanding of AI.Strategic Leadership: Demonstrated skill to develop business cases, align initiatives with organizational goals, and lead cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.Stakeholder Management: Exceptional collaboration and communication skills to influence senior leaders, manage external law firm relationships, and drive cultural change.Operational Excellence: Strong project management, performance tracking, and process optimization skills to deliver measurable results.Change Management: Expertise in driving adoption of new technologies and processes, including coaching and training teams.The duties and responsibilities described here are not exhaustive and additional assignments, duties, or responsibilities may be required of this position.
