- Schedules and coordinates all PEC transmission system switching activities in conjunction with ERCOT in the planning of outages so that system-wide impacts may be considered and in conjunction with PEC, other ERCOT utilities and PEC customers to maintain the integrity of the transmission system.
- Develops and maintains documentation of system outage plans and communicates plans to system operations staff.
- Enters outage schedule information in the ERCOT Portal (outage scheduler).
- Collects data and maintains database of switching activities.
- Coordinates and negotiates outages with Independent Power Producers so that impacts and plans may be considered in their load planning process.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with internal stakeholders regarding transmission system outages.
- Coordinates with management to discuss operational issues and schedules in order to meet internal and external needs.
- Coordinates with project management and engineering to provide operational perspective to project plans. Monitors and advises engineering and technical staff regarding changes to one-line diagrams, load flows, RTU check-out procedures and transmission line constraints.
- Advises Transmission System Operators and shift supervisory staff during normal and emergency situations.
- Performs power flow studies
- Supports 24/7 real-time availability and access to support software
- Configures and Test Control Center Support Software
- Documents processes and user guides for Support Software
- Responsible for system configuration and access control
- Responsible for daily operation and maintenance Control Center Support Systems
- Communicates and coordinates with vendors for implementation of Control Center specific projects
- Install, test and troubleshoot the Support Systems and Upgrades
- Monitor and configure integrations with other systems
- Develop systems with provisions for continuity of operations during disaster recovery or other emergency situations
- Maintain, configure and ensure the integrity of computer software to include such
- activities as account setup, troubleshooting and test support
- Provide support and guidance to Control Center Management
- Apply and track updates, patches and configuration changes for third party software
- Ensure that backup systems are available and configured for 24/7 support
- Maintain Interfaces between systems to ensure transfer of data
- Design, build, edit, verify and maintain Control Center dashboards for management and executive use
- Analyze historical data and retrieval for users outside the SCADA network
- Assist transmission and distribution operators in day-to-day operations and use of third party software
- Maintain the security of confidential information
- Stay abreast of advances in technology
- Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned
- Knowledge of EMS/ Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications or prior work experience in a mission critical or controls environment
- Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data or processing information
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
- Knowledge of business and management principles including strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques and budgeting
- Knowledge of IEEE Nomenclature
- Knowledge of Substation Relaying Schemes
- Knowledge of Substation Equipment
- Knowledge of Distribution Protective Equipment
- Knowledge of NERC, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Electric Reliability Council of Texas
- Knowledge of electric utility construction standards and National Electric Safety Code

- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

- Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering technology, electrical technology, electronics or relevant field
- Directly related experience may substitute for education
- Five years of related experience in electrical engineering technology, transmission and/or distribution systems or transmission equipment
- Transmission operator experience preferred
- Valid Driver’s License
- The employee may be required to stand; reach with hands and arms, stoop and kneel
- The employee may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time
- The employee may be required to lift, carry, push, pull or move up to 25 pounds
- The employee may be required to travel
- This position may require shift work including nights, weekends, holidays and 10-12 hours workdays
- This position requires after hours on-call
- This position is in a secured control room environment and intermittently in the field
- The employee may be required to work from ladders in confined spaces and occasionally may be exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock; toxic or caustic chemicals.
- This position may be required to work more than 40 hours per week
