Education, Experience, and Licensure (required and preferred)
- Holds teacher or teacher aide certification in Illinois (only high school diploma); is in good health as proven by physical examination; passes police and hospital tests as designated by the district
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior, confidentiality, and professionalism as is expected of certificed staff members.
- Possesses the proven ability to work harmoniously and effectively with teachers, students, parents, and district administrators in accomplishing the purposes of the position.
- Works with individual student(s), small groups of students, or the whole class to provide instruction and support the lessons taught by the teacher
- Adapts/modifies and implements instruction using the regular education curriculum and/or implements instruction using the modified curriculum when appropriate under the direction of the teacher
- Assists student(s) with independent assignments/activities, enrichment work, and/or as assigned by the teacher
- Assists student(s) in any/all classes away from the child's homeroom class when appropriate
- Collects data at the direction of the teacher
- Supports students' behavior plans as directed by the teacher
- Employs positive behavioral strategies when dealing with student behavior
- Observes student(s) behavior and performance, and informs the teacher of any information deemed important
- Assists the substitute in the absence of the regular teacher. Can, with prior permission from the teacher, serve as the substitute teacher in the absence of the regular teacher
- Eligible to substitute for teachers if necessary credentials are held. Serves as substitute teacher for other teachers should the need arise
- Assists the teacher in developing instructional strategies and materials for student use
- At the discretion of the building administrator, can attend workshops and conferences
- Operates and cares for equipment used in the school
- Supervises student(s) at lunch, recess, before and after school for bus arrival and departure, during assemblies, and at other times as assigned by the building administrator
- Performs any other duties assigned by the building administrator
- The length of the work days is 8 hours to equal 7.5 hours of work and a 30 minute duty free unpaid lunch
- Must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the following functions:
- Speak, hear, and see on a continuous basis
- Document and retrieve information via writing and/or keyboarding
- Be able to stand and walk about continuously for us to 4 hours
- Occasionally be able to lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds
- Crouch or stoop as needed in order to speak to seated students
- Maintain consistent attendance
