- Propose and develop holistic energy, water, and carbon reduction opportunities early in the design process, and back those ideas up with rigorous analysis and thoughtful data visualizations to clearly communicate complex concepts.
- Evaluate architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system design and controls to optimize performance and track progress towards project goals.
- Identify savings opportunities in existing buildings as part of energy audits and decarbonization assessments. Work with building owners to quantify and prioritize scope of upgrades and produce implementation plans.
- Search for and synthesize applicable energy codes & policies (e.g., Massachusetts Stretch Energy Code, BERDO, Local Law 97, Washington DC BEPS, etc.). Compare paths to compliance, advise owners and design teams how these impact their buildings, and manage the project team to minimize compliance risk to the project.
- Perform life-cycle cost analyses, solar photovoltaic feasibility analyses, and water reduction studies.
- Lead junior engineers to create complex energy savings calculations and technical client-facing reports. Educate, delegate, and provide quality control for their analysis efforts.
- 8+ years of building performance analysis or design engineering in a consulting environment.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and delegate work.
- Experience interfacing with internal and external clients.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, energy systems, or architectural engineering.
- Well-tuned understanding of building physics and awareness of metrics used to quantify different dimensions of building performance (e.g. energy use intensity)
- Ability to use sound engineering judgement and project management skills to make decisions based on project goals.
- Familiarity with local and national standards (ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, LEED Reference Guides, etc.), decarbonization policy and trends (e.g. methodologies for beneficial electrification), and complex project typologies (laboratories, data centers, etc.).
- Familiarity with alternative / renewable energy estimation techniques.
- Experience with eQuest, IES, or EnergyPlus, and the ability to generate spreadsheet energy calculations are required.
- PE registration a plus
