
Construction Technology Specialist, PCC

- Set up GPS base and rover systems for job site machine control
- Perform site localizations, grade checks, and verify control point accuracy
- Support field crews using GPS-equipped bulldozers and graders
- Conduct topographic surveys and generate terrain data for modeling
- Operate and support Leica ICON Pave systems for trimmers, mills, and pavers
- Set up and maintain robotic total stations for stringless operations
- Measure and calibrate machines prior to utilization on project
- Apply specialized training in equipment setup
- Build and maintain 3D GPS and stringless paving models using Agtek and Carlson
- Export models in required formats for field deployment
- Perform digital takeoffs for estimating and planning purposes
- Maintain equipment inventories and ensure firmware is up to date
- Use knowledge of machine software to train and support field staff
- Set up and manage job sites within XBE logistics software, including JPPs, templates, and material sites
- Analyze logistics and performance data to support continuous improvement
- Provide technical support to Project Managers, Superintendents, Crew Leaders, and Portable Plant Managers
- Train team members on the use of systems and promote best practices, as needed.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related field is preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience implementing and supporting the operational use of digital construction technology required.
- 3+ years of experience in heavy highway construction, engineering, surveying, or equipment operation, with GPS machine control and/or stingless paving systems preferred; equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
- Must have strong math skills, including the ability to calculate areas, volume, grades and elevations. A solid understanding of geometry and algebra is essential for interpreting plans, verifying survey data, and supporting accurate model development.
- Strong computer skills are required, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, formatting, and reporting. Must also be able to read and interpret construction plans, including profiles, cross sections, and grading specifications.
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn:
- GPS machine control systems
- Stringless paving technology and total station setup
- 3D modeling tools such as Agtek or Carlson
- Construction takeoffs, plan stripping, survey data, and topographic analysis
- Must be able to pass a pre-work physical screening and a drug test.
- Must be a self-motivated and self-managing professional capable of prioritizing tasks, managing time effectively, and working independently with minimal supervision. This role requires initiative, accountability, and the ability to follow through on both short-term and long-term project objectives.
- Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to attend formal training, commit to ongoing professional development, and have a strong interest in digital construction technology.
- Excellent communication, problem solving, and technical troubleshooting skills are required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both field personnel and office staff.
- Able to read, interpret, and communicate construction plans, specifications, and digital models clearly.
- Demonstrate sound judgement and decision making when solving field or technology related challenges.
- Apply critical thinking to troubleshoot GPS and machine control issues and validate model accuracy.
