Longwood Collective is seeking an organized and motivated Data Intern for their Area Planning Department. For the past 25 years, Longwood Collective has engaged in data collection outreach efforts from our 22 member institutions. This data includes critical demographic, facilities, parking, commuting benefit, financial, workforce development, and sustainability data that help us tell the story of Longwood over time. The Data Intern will be responsible for backfilling 25 years of data previously collected and stored in Excel workbooks into a modernized database to enable trend analysis, compiling new data available through public sources, assist with communication with members, and conduct diligent QA of the database. The Data Intern will work 15-20 hours per week and the internship will last approximately 4-5 months.Essential Responsibilities
  • Diligently transpose and import data from Excel to a Customer Relationship Manager platform
  • Find and compile data from a range of online sources, other Longwood Collective surveys, calling or emailing city departments, administrative agencies, and communicating with Longwood Collective staff to gather data
  • Using critical thinking and good judgement, evaluate unstructured data and bring recommendations to manager
  • Assist in building a dashboard for data analysis using excel formulas, pivot tables, and charts
  • Assist with communicating with member institutions by responding to emails, following up and documenting communication
  • Present project updates at regular team meetings with senior management
  • Meticulous attention to detail and discretion is required to handle sensitive and confidential data with accuracy to minimize human error, and to cross check for quality assurance
  • Potential opportunity to assist with other data collection tasks and collaborate with various Longwood Collective project managers on efforts such as flood mapping, tree inventorying, furniture and other asset inventorying.
Preferred Skills
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Suite especially Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Experience with data management software
  • Strong critical thinking skills
