Position Summary:We are now hiring for an Ophthalmic technician that will support a high-volume ophthalmic practice that focuses on providing quality and compassionate care to each patient needing complete eye care services. Responsibilities:This position requires customer service skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a degree of independent decision-making.Ophthalmic skills include:
  • Obtaining and documenting patient history
  • Determining visual acuity
  • Performing automated and manual refraction for diagnostic purposes
  • Retinoscopy and refinement for prescribing purposes
  • Advanced lensometry
  • Logarithmic pupillary assessment
  • Static & kinetic visual field testing
  • PAM, BAT, and advanced ocular motility assessment
  • Manual keratometry
  • Osmolarity testing
  • Administering eye drops, ointments, and irrigating solutions to the eye as ordered by physician
  • Performing office duties and clinical tasks - entering data into EMR, providing patient services
  • Measurement of intraocular pressure (tonometry)
  • Pre-operative preparation of patient
  • Maintenance and repair of equipment and instruments
  • Perform ocular imaging including OCT, Topography, fundus photography
  • Preparation of surgical instruments and equipment
  • Aseptic technique
  • Operating room assistance for minor and refractive surgeries
  • Preparation and labeling of microscope slide and culture media obtained by physician
  • Performing amblyopia treatment including patching, drops, and prism
  • Intraocular lens power calculations
  • Post-operative education
  • Escalation and triage of urgent patient needs/care
  • Patient education, advanced refracting skills including over-refraction of contact lenses, contact lens fit/adjustment, advanced slit lamp technique
  • A-scan diagnostic measurements
  • Biometry measurements
Qualifications:
  • 7 + years of ophthalmic technician experience preferred
  • COA/COT Required/COMT Preferred
  • Dependable transportation required to travel to other offices as required
  • Must be flexible with traveling to various locations
  • Ability to pay attention to detail • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • The ability to seek instruction in areas where he/she is not knowledgeable
  • The ability to recognize inconsistencies
