- Documents the resident’s condition and nursing needs.
- Accurately and promptly implements physicians’ orders.
- Weekly Skin Audits on all residents.
- Weekly documentation on wound care log and nurses notes, to include measurements, treatments and response to treatment.
- Assigns nursing care to team members in accordance with the resident’s needs and the person’s capabilities and qualifications.
- Performs treatments for assigned resident’s and documents that treatment as required by Regency, state and federal regulations.
- Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
- Assist physicians with special tests and procedures within the scope of state specified Nursing Practice Act.
- Assure that adequate supplies are available to personnel who perform procedures that involve exposure to blood or body fluids.
- Monitor Nursing service to ensure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
- Ensure that all nursing work areas (i.e. nurse’s station, med rooms etc.) are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
- Ensure that all resident care rooms, treatment areas, etc., are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
- Participate in the review and revision of care plans and assessments as necessary, but at least quarterly.
- Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of an ongoing Quality Assurance Program for the nursing department as pertaining to Wound Care Management.
- Contact families of residents with skin treatments on a weekly basis with an update.
- Ensure Medical Director and Director of Nursing are made aware of wounds that are not responding to treatment weekly.
- Consult with RD, Dietary Manager and PT on complicated wound healing.
- Oversee the facility Infection Control Program, to insure each infection is monitored and follow-up labs as ordered.
- Prepare the monthly infection control report with tracking and trends.
- Infection control report done on all infection.
- Ensures that supplies are utilized economically and that equipment is clean and maintained in a safe manner.
- Reports and records pertinent observations and reactions regarding residents.
- Coordinates nursing care of residents when scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments.
- Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in residents.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
- Promotes interpersonal relationships and develops staff morale.
- Answer resident call lights and ensure that all residents are checked frequently.
- Any suspected abuse must be reported to the Director of Nursing/Administrator immediately.
- Educational Requirements and Experience:
- Graduate of accredited LPN/LVN School of Nursing or RN School of Nursing
- Valid RN license
- Valid CPR certification.
- Wound care certification preferred.
- One year experience in nursing preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Skilled in motivating and directing the workforce.
- Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the residents and their family members, and at all levels of the facility.
- Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
