- Performs full range of simple-to-complex sample testing and laboratory services. Follows policies and procedures and is competent to perform testing in microbiology, transfusion medicine, molecular biology, and infectious disease safety. Performs patient specimen testing. Ensures sample suitability. Demonstrates proficiency in newborn/infant heel-sticks; child and adult finger-sticks; newborn, infant, child and adult venipuncture.
- Evaluates, judges, and interprets test results and ensures accuracy before release of test results. Accepts and processes samples for on-site testing or forwards them to contracted reference laboratories. Identifies and resolves inconsistencies in patient results. Maintains laboratory equipment and instruments. Ensures quality control and functionality of instruments. Prepares lab for inspection from regulatory bodies.
- Uses good customer service practices to answer questions from patients, providers, and others regarding test processes, patient results, or sample collection techniques. Assists in training of new employees and laboratory students. Participates in continuing education programs. Proficient use of LIS and other computer programs.
- Monitors, maintains, orders and stocks laboratory supplies.
- Assists with training of new employees during the orientation period and as directed.
- Assists the laboratory manager with Process Improvement activities associated with their departments as directed.

- An Associate’s degree in Medical Technology or related field – required
- Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) OR Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA) OR equivalent certification (as determined by a national credential certification agency) - required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of clinical laboratory experience – required
- Protocols and practices in infectious disease control.
- Instrument maintenance and ability to ensure quality and functionality of instruments.
- Regulatory requirements and understanding of steps necessary to follow laboratory procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing LIS and a variety of software applications
