Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This position is a responsible for providing direct patient care in a safe and effective manner. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: data collection and care appropriate to the age of the patients served, with appropriate Nursing Assistant interventions. The Nursing Assistant plays a key role in ensuring excellent customer satisfaction to our patients. Working under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the constant observer maintains constant direct observation and visualization of identified patient(s). The Nursing Assistant provides activities of daily living to patients, and is responsible for providing excellent patient hygiene. Assisting patients with ambulation, toileting needs, and taking vital signs are additional functions of this role. Immediate attention to patient call lights is and expectation as well.TECHNICAL SKILLS/JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS/*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*
  • Demonstrates hospital telephone etiquette by answering the phones promptly, courteously and identifying department and self.
  • Is aware of and follows all hospital and department policies and procedures.
  • Promotes positive co-worker relationships through team work and cooperation. Understands and supports the needs of individuals in other departments and promotes conflict resolution. Shares information, work knowledge and experience with coworkers, physicians and students in a non-threatening manner. Offers assistance and promptly responds to requests.
  • Maintains high productivity and performs efficiently regardless of whether the work volume is high or low.

  • Provides direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.

  • Provides items of direct patient care such as bed baths, AM/HS care, back rubs, foot rubs, ambulation, toileting needs.
  • Removes and cleans dentures and/or partials and provides a labeled receptacle for storage
  • Documents care appropriately and timely in patient record.
  • Rounding hourly for patient satisfaction and safety.
  • Ensures food delivery and sets up trays for patient's convenience. Feeds patients when necessary and considers patient's ability to chew and swallow. Ensures that fresh water and nourishment are provided regularly when appropriate.
  • Communicates changes in patient's condition to primary nurse. Orients assigned patients to his/her room on admission. Explains the operation of the bed, call and emergency lights, television, and storage of safe for Follows procedures for specimen collection, labeling accurately, and timely routing to Laboratory.
  • Demonstrates accuracy when taking temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, and weight.
  • Promptly answers any patient call lights, and immediately provides appropriate assistance.
  • Documents and accurately maintains intake and output.
Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of universal precaution, infection control, and isolation procedures. At all times adheres to policies and procedures * Assists in planning, providing, and evaluating patient care as a member of the nursing team.Provides for safe care of patient transfers. Assumes responsibility for bagging, labeling, and routing all patient belongings with each transfer, including: Assumes responsibility for sending home all personal belongings with each discharged patient. Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment by immediately reporting any defective equipment or other problems to the Charge Nurse. Places staff names on communication board in patient's room. Established and maintains any interpersonal relationship with patients, visitors, and other hospital personnel. Assures confidentiality of patient information. Employs proper techniques of body mechanics to ensure patient and staff safety at all times. Recognizes the need and initiates BLS appropriately. Keeps patient care areas neat and clean at all times. Completes assignment with minimal use of overtime. * Communication to patients, families, visitors, physicians and co-workers. Responds to patient's complaints/patient issues take priority.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
MANDATORY:
  • One year acute care experience. In lieu of his experience, consideration will be made for staff with strong education and associated experiential background.
  • Current AHA Provider Basic Life Support
  • Current Nursing Assistant Certificate or Currently Enrolled Nursing Student who has successfully completed first semester of RN Program (ADN or BSN).
PREFERRED:
  • Current enrollment in a BSN program
  • Medical Terminology
  • Order Entry
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift and position patients using proper body mechanics
  • Must have visual and auditory acuity necessary for responsibilities listed.
