Job Description: As a hands-on Controller, your role will encompass comprehensive financial oversight and management of the organization. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with GAAP requirements, and optimizing the budget. This position requires a strong background in fund accounting principles, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to effectively communicate financial information to various stakeholders.Key Responsibilities: * Financial Management and Strategy:
  • Oversee all financial operations of the organization, including budgeting, financial reporting, and cash flow management.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to enhance the efficient and effective use of funds.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports for management, the board of directors, and funding sources, providing accurate and timely information on the organization's financial performance.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop financial strategies that align with the organization's mission and goals.
  • Accounting and Compliance:
  • Manage and maintain accounting records in accordance to GAAP.
  • Ensure strict compliance with regulations, reporting requirements, and company policies and procedures.
  • Track and allocate expenses based on the specific requirements of each entity.
  • Reconcile balances and maintain accurate records of revenue and expenses related to multiple intercompany accounts.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in regulations and accounting standards of accounting.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting, and Financial Analysis:
  • Lead the budgeting process by collaborating with program managers and stakeholders to develop comprehensive annual budgets and business justifications.
  • Monitor budget utilization and provide regular financial projections and forecasts.
  • Analyze budget-to-actual variances and provide insights and recommendations for corrective actions when necessary.
  • Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making processes, including cost-benefit analyses and financial modeling.
  • Audit and Compliance Management:
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare financial documentation and support audit processes conducted by internal and external auditors.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to gather necessary financial data and documentation for audits.
  • Implement corrective measures and recommendations resulting from audits and internal control assessments.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with auditors.
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Lead and manage a team of finance professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including managers, officers, and executive leadership, to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment that promotes open communication and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation is highly desirable.
  • Extensive experience in accounting within the private or public sector.
  • Strong knowledge of fund accounting principles, GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and regulatory requirements for complex organizations.
  • Proven experience as a hands-on controller or in a similar financial management role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with reporting requirements.
  • Strategic mindset and ability to contribute to financial sustainability and revenue diversification
  • Technology: SAP, Oracle, Peoplesoft, Netsuite, SAGE, SAGE Intacct, QuickBooks, Workday.
