It is the mission of the Hammond Housing Authority to contribute to growth in the lives of the residents of this community, while also increasing morale and dignity of all constituents, by engaging in productive and meaningful relationships, communication and education to improve the foundation of the important housing needs. This mission will be accomplished by the combined efforts of all stakeholders, including but not limited to, the families, the owners, and the employees all working together to provide an environment that sustains housing needs of the low, very low and extremely low income families. Additionally, the Hammond Housing Authority will increase its efforts to obtain additional programs that will encourage and assist these families in their journey to self sufficiency. Program objectives for the Hammond Housing Authority are to ensure clients obtain safe, decent and sanitary housing. The administration and staff will ensure that procedures and guidelines are clear and that requirements are met.About this position
This position will be the first impression of the agency. You will great clients on the front line, which will either be a walk-in, a phone call, or an email correspondence. This will require excellent social skills, verbal communication, and written communication on a highly professional level. You must also possess the ability to deescalate high conflict situations. All correspondence sent out from this agency is to be professional and properly produced, such as labels, envelopes, letter formatting, etc.Minimum QualificationsNo experience or training is required.Job SpecificationThe official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found .Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:
  • Maintain client records electronically, including scanning and organizing
  • Field inbound and outbound communications, including phone, email and in-person
  • Create and send correspondence, including mass mailings
  • Maintains supervisor's calendar, as instructed, making appointments and arranging meeting rooms, and materials.
  • May perform administrative functions such as payroll preparation, travel reports, supply requisitions, etc.
  • Maintains files and reference manuals/materials; ensures confidentiality of information, as necessary.
  • Sorts and distributes incoming mail.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Classified WAE Appointment -- This position will be filled as a part-time Classified WAE, limited to 1,245 working hours in a 12-month period.
Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression group.
