Medical Records Health Information TechnicianDepartment: Business Office FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Business Office ManagerPosition SummaryThe Medical Records Health Information Technician serves as a resource for Clinic and Acute Care staff, patients, and visitors by assisting with the registration process, providing information, processing pre-authorizations and medical records requests while following all laws and regulations including HIPAA. Responsible for reviewing records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with all state, federal and CCMSD regulations and policies.Essential Functions
  • Reviews and processes medical records requests per HIPAA protocols and
  • Tracks requests and sends invoices related to legal, life insurance and WY disability.
  • Coordinates the release of medical information to insurance companies, lawyers, state, and federal agencies.
  • Follows up on record requests that have not been received within a reasonable amount of time and audits documents/files for completeness.
  • Notifies requester when records are available
  • Responsible for prior authorizations related to Radiology, IP stays, VA emergency department visits.
  • Obtain information related to Worker's Compensation and various other insurances; vehicle, motorcycle, etc.
  • Assists in the registration process of OP, ER and IP
  • Assists with data entry into the electronic health

  • Facilitates a harmonious work environment, whereby treating all patients and coworkers with respect and dignity.
  • Observes confidentiality and safeguards all patient related
  • Answers and handles all in-coming calls in a courteous and professional
  • Provides exceptional customer service and models the mission of CCMSD when interacting with internal and external stakeholders promoting a positive image for the organization.
  • Other duties may be assigned within the scope and practice of the position
  • Provides information and applications related to self-pay option.
QualificationsEducation
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver' s License
  • Associate of Science in Health Information Management (preferred)
Experience
  • One(1)year customer service
  • Medical Terminology (preferred)
  • Minimum two(2)years working with medical records
  • Medical coding experience is beneficial
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Professional and discrete manner at all
  • Ability to communicate effectively and verbally as well as the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Basic computer knowledge
Hours of Work - Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM
