Position: Senior Missile Systems Structural Engineer
Position Type: Full-time Onsite
Position Location: Huntsville, AL
Clearance Required: Active SecretWaypoint’s client is seeking a Senior Missile Systems Structural Engineer to provide technical and project engineering support to the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) Project Office. This role offers the opportunity to apply advanced structural engineering expertise in support of one of the Nation’s most critical missile defense programs.Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering support for missile systems and components, focusing on structural engineering and qualification.
  • Actively participate in All-Up Round (AUR) Integrated Product Team (IPT) activities and working groups.
  • Support failure investigations, procedure validations, and verifications.
  • Review contractor development activities and maximize Government IPT participation in key areas such as prototype testing, design reviews, risk reviews, trade studies, and other design/development efforts.
  • Participate in engineering oversight and management of NGI contractor deliverables.
  • Provide direct review of Contract Data Requirements List (CDRLs) and Objective Evidence (OE) deliverables, coordinating with Agency SMEs when required.
  • Review and document design changes and engineering change proposals.
  • Provide staff utilization and planning inputs to ensure effective oversight and independent assessments.
Required
  • Master’s degree in a STEM field (Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering strongly preferred).
  • 12+ years of related experience in Missile Systems Structural Engineering.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Proven ability to conduct structural engineering evaluations and assessments, with recommendations.
  • Experience in the structural design and qualification of missile systems.
  • Hands-on experience with engineering analysis tools such as MS Excel, Python, MATLAB.
  • Knowledge of fatigue analysis, cumulative damage theory, failure analysis of mechanical components/systems.
  • Experience leading collaborative teams to deliver well-planned and coordinated results.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
Desired
  • Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) processes.
  • Ability to develop documentation for Program Reviews and Engineering Review Boards (ERBs).
  • Experience with the design and analysis of bolted joints and bearing design.
