- Established and productive professional contributor working under limited supervision to generate new designs, review and disposition internal and external change requests, create and review redline revisions, and support test and documentation of mechanical hardware and assemblies.
- Responsibilities for the full system life cycle including proposal, development, qualification, certification and aftermarket support.
- Contribute to hardware engineering requirements interpretation and implementation into design for medium complexity components of mechanical designs.
- Work closely with other engineering and operations disciplines (e.g., systems engineering, drafting, test engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality assurance, logistics, etc.) to ensure that mechanical design and testing is appropriate for the project/product design approach and manufacturability.
- Review and disposition operations/supplier test data and deviation requests.
- Contribute to new design and revision reviews providing expertise to produce high quality drawings and documents.
- Understand and utilize the appropriate processes and tools during development of hardware.
- Use independent judgment to make decisions in day-to-day job responsibilities.
- Participate in new technology development for fire extinguishing and suppression agents, systems and components.
- Integrate with and provide support for customer reviews and meetings.
- The work associated with this position will be performed primarily onsite in Wilson and/or Raleigh, NC.
- Travel as necessary ~5-25%.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
- Extensive experience with technical design documentation such as mechanical assemblies, fabrication drawings, parts lists, weldments, installation drawings, and GD&T.
- Extensive experience with metal fabrication, finishing, machined parts, and weldments.
- Adaptability and organization to independently support multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to quickly change focus between high level concepts and low-level details.
- A well-developed habit of verifying your work and that of others for accuracy and completeness supporting final approvals.
- Self-motivated, receptive, able to organize, manage, and complete assignments on time.
- Proficient utilizing MS Office Applications / Office 365
- Demonstrated practice and knowledge to disposition deviations.
- Effective and efficient communication in various settings: in-person, virtual, email and direct messaging.
- Highly detail oriented in review and interpretation of engineering drawings, test data, reports and documentation.
