Essential Job Tasks:
  • Welds parts in position for fabrication of vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies.
  • Uses carbon electrodes to cut, shape and groove metal.
  • May prepare workplace for welding by cleaning and/or preheating.
  • Examines weld sizes of weld beads.
  • Cleans weld area; sweeps and removes scrap.
  • Other job duties as may be assigned relevant to the trade
  • Welds shell plating, fabricated cast or forged components according to specifications for vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
Qualifications Standards:
  • Previous experience or training is required
  • Must be able to qualify in two gas shielded FCAW welding processes 71T-1 and 811N3 in the three positions
  • Knowledge of welding characteristics of metal.Must be able to work at heights, confined spaces, and any assigned shift
Physical/Mental Involvement
  • Frequent to continuous lifting of welding equipment
  • Works in all areas of the shipyard and on board ships
  • Hearing warning signals and reading and comprehending safety instructions
  • May be required to attend safety, quality and/or process improvement meetings
  • Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, gases, various climates and temperatures, and low ventilation conditions, all of which can cause discomfort and/or respiratory difficulties
  • Exposure to constantly moving machines, mechanical parts, and high levels of constant noise.
PAY:
  • Up to $25/hour and $22/hour w/ Per Diem available for Non Local Applicants
