Gathers, verifies, and updates statistics, medical data, accident information, and reporting data for Adult/Juvenile file folders. Maintains a complex provider filing system, and individual files. Maintains records, updates files, and prepares inactive files and records for storage. Must maintain strict medical record confidentiality. Provides clerical duties and serves as a receptionist as needed.Examples of Work Performed:Processes and maintains medical records of clinic patients in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements.Gathers, verifies, and updates statistics, medical data, and accident information to be used for reporting purposes.Handles work assignments independently with minimal supervision. Uses good judgment and tact when dealing with the general public and coworkers.Composes and prepares written responses to routine or standard inquiries received. Assembles and provides information upon request.As needed, assists the receptionist in screening calls and transferring them to the appropriate person or program. Meets and greets the public and provides assistance and information as needed.As directed, provides clerical assistance to co-workers on various work assignments and projects.Prepares inactive records for storage and applicable paperwork. As needed, retrieves documents and/or files when requested.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements.Knowledge of Contract Health Services eligibility requirements, policies, and procedures.Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of records management and filing principles and practices.Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.Ability to file records in alphabetical or numerical order, or by subject, or according to the filing system used.Ability to use a computer and basic computer software.Ability to perform typing at a satisfactory level of accuracy and proficiency.Ability to utilize and operate standard office equipment such as a copier, calculator, and fax machine.Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all program and client information.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Ability to understand and address oral and written instructions.Ability to apply existing policies and guidelines to varied administrative responsibilities.Ability to work independently and productively.Minimum Requirements:High school diploma required. ORCompletion of a certified or vocational secretarial training program AND 2-years work experience in a similar position.Must pass a pre-employment background check.Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License.Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
