- Ensure safe work practices align with Novelis safety and environmental requirements, policies, and regulatory statutes.
- Ensures conformance to process specifications. Troubleshoots and diagnoses Wastewater Treatment Plant operational and equipment issues. Advances emerging issues to Supervision to proactively address potential risks.
- Assigns, monitors & reviews the quality and accuracy of work of the WWT Operators.
- Assist with orientation or training with new or less experienced WWT Operators.
- Monitors and records operating conditions and enters data in WWT Plant shift log or systems of record.
- Monitors control systems, i.e. SCADA, PLCs and Instrumentation.
- Maintains open lines of communication with Manufacturing Units for any upset conditions in the Units that effect waste streams for proactive response.
- Performs lab tests (chemical, physical and biological) to ensure effective treatment of incoming wastewater streams and outgoing Effluent in compliance with NPDES permit requirements.
- Monitors process chemical supplies and recommends reorder.
- Practices good housekeeping in assigned areas.
- Provides recommendations to upgrade procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment to meet operational needs. Find opportunities for process improvements.
- Must follow established operational, process control, safety and emergency response procedures.
- Participate in plant safety initiatives.
- 3-5 years experience in Industrial or Municipal Wastewater Plant Operations
- Class C Wastewater Certificate of Competency or Equivalent Experience as an Operator in an Industrial or Municipal Wastewater Treatment Facility
- Understanding of mechanical, biological, and chemical processes in Wastewater Treatment
- Familiarity with safety protocols and environmental regulations
- Ability to perform and interpret laboratory test for process control
- High school diploma / GED
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, shifts, and holidays.
- Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Must be flexible as job focus and assignments may change frequently.
- Ability to train entry level Operators on Wastewater Treatment Operations and Equipment
- Valid Class, A or B Wastewater Certificate of Competency
- Associate’s Degree / Vocational Technical or Technical Training
- Prior Lead Operator or Supervisory experience in Wastewater Treatment
- Experience preparing compliance reports for local, state and federal agencies
