
Automotive Diesel Mechanic

- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Four years directly related work experience.
- Certificate from a vocational school or other recognized source with a major study in electrical or automotive repair is preferred. In lieu of formal course work, a combination of college credits, on-the-job training, other formalized training, or experience may be considered.
- Completion of the basic automotive mechanics course, or equivalent.
- Completion of the automotive organizational maintenance course, or equivalent.
- Completion of the automotive intermediate maintenance course, or equivalent.
- Maintains MVAC 609 Technician Certification.
- Completion of the advanced motor transport maintenance courses. In lieu of formal course work, a combination of college credits, on-the-job training, other formalized training, or experience may be considered.
- Working knowledge of how heavy duty machinery, engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions and other parts and systems work.
- Ability to detect faulty items, determine cause of malfunction, and determine best repair methods.
- Ability to assemble, disassemble, repair, or modify components and systems.
- Ability to read and interpret parts lists, manufacturers’ and Government repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
- Thorough understanding of the principles of operation and required repairs of all components and sub-components including but not limited to the Suspension, Engine, Transmission, Transfers, Differentials, wreckers, winches and sub-components.
- Ability to utilize Technical Manuals, Lubrication Orders/Instructions, and Modification Instructions to repair all rolling stock assets.
- Possess a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator License and able to obtain and maintain a Tactical Operator License as necessary.
- Ability to comply with all established methods, safety standards, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to this position.
- U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and Base Access.
