Date: 07/01/2014 Supervisory Responsibility: YesGeneral Description of the Job ClassManage, coordinate and participate in a variety of administrative and/or clinicalactivities related to a specific program or hospital unit within Nursing Services; prepare and manage budgets, supervise staff and develop policies and procedures consistent with program objectivesDuties and Responsibilities of this LevelSummaryThe Nurse Program Manager will report to the Duke Transplant Center Abdominal Director. This position will provide daily clinical support to the director and abdominal transplant nurses. This position will help manage CSU education and orientation competencies. This position will assist the director in the development of educational and compliance standards.Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide direct supervision to RNCC and, if required, Program Specialist staff and perform coaching conversations and EOYs.Provide daily support to the transplant nurses assisting with problem solving concerns and barriers to care that come up.Participate in afterhours administrative on-call for the transplant center.Coordinates learning opportunities for staff within assigned locations to facilitate orientation, competency validation and meet ongoing learning needs, planning, formal training methods and on-the-job instruction techniques.Works with transplant leadership and coordinators to develop, update, and maintain program specific patient education materials, DTC policies, and programmatic operational workflows.Communicates effectively with staff, administrative leadership, and physician leadership regarding educational needs and offerings.Coordinates educational activities with the assigned clinical area leadership.Establishes and maintains a departmental educational documentation system consistent with regulatory and hospital standards.In conjunction with the director, develops performance review plans.Assesses the training needs and progress of staff members; researches, develops and evaluates in-service training programs.Develops and conducts annual competency validation process.Develops/coordinates education plans related to initial and ongoing competency.Supports staff development with educational activities (which include remediation, certification, mentoring, life support, Joint Commission requirements, new equipment/procedures, electronic health record updates).Participate in personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, mid-year/end-of-year conversations, corrective actions, terminations, and other related activities.Lead the DTC outreach for abdominal programsLead the annual UNOS Standardized RFI documentation and partner with Transplant Finance on completing the annual UNOS Staffing Survey.Partner with Performance Excellence on the continual assessment of transplant related clinical costs.Partner with DTC IT staff to review current and future reporting requirements.Required Qualifications at this Level Education:BSN RequiredExperience:3 years of nursing experienceStrong preference for 5 years clinical nursing experience with at least 2 years experience in transplant, critical care or disease specific specialties.Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina required.
