Under the immediate direction of the supervisor, the locomotive/equipment operator safely operates the locomotive, performs rail yard switching, prepares railcars for loading and performs some track and equipment inspection/maintenance. This position will also be cross trained to operate various types of heavy equipment including haul truck, water truck, skid steer, loader, etc.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in plant operations including production, quality control, loading and shipping.
- Assist with preventative and routine maintenance on track.
- Must be willing to cross train in all plant areas.
- Learn to operate plant-specific mobile equipment (i.e. Front-end Loader).
- Perform daily pre/post-shift inspections on equipment and maintain maintenance log.
- Follow all safety rules, regulations and procedures as set forth by the Federal and State agencies and Martin Marietta
- Demonstrate a positive, upbeat attitude and energy level towards teammates, peers, and customers.
- Maintains good housekeeping in areas of responsibility.
- Other duties as requested.
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent required
- Previous rail experience, including locomotive operations a plus
- Must be able to work 12 hour shifts, possible weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed
- Must be able to read equipment operating manual
- Must be able to complete pre-shift inspection report
- Must be able to communicate over CB radio or with hand signals and warning sounds, with coworkers regarding movement of vehicles and mobile equipment
- Possess basic mathematical aptitude to complete daily reports
- Must be able to read and interpret gauges
- Must be service oriented with proven ability to work in a TEAM environment
- Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner.
- Possess good vision to perceive depth at close range and distances up to 150 feet
- Must be able to climb on and off equipment to operate and service
- This job requires the ability to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots and hearing protection.
- Must be able to climb stairs to a height of 100 ft. and work at this height.
- Ability to operate radio, CB radio, computer and other equipment as required.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb and reach around all areas of equipment.
- Lift up to 50 lbs. to waist level and carry 20 yards.
- Ability to use hand tools such as grease guns, shovels, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.
- Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 90 dbs.
- Will work in varied environments (in all weather conditions heat, cold, wet, humid, dry and/or dusty conditions).
- Exposure to cement, clay, limestone, shale, and other raw materials and various chemicals, solvents and lubricants.
